This Atomiswave arcade game, Neo Geo Battle Coliseum, was released in July of 2005, but never made it to North American consoles until 2007. But by then everyone was fascinated with the waggles and the blu-rays. Thus, the 2D tag-team fighter featuring the all-stars of SNK's games was tossed instantly into the bargain bin.
However, SNK are giving Battle Coliseum another chance, this time with 3D backgrounds, a sprite filter (a la MvC2), and hopefully online play. The game is being released exclusively through Xbox Live Arcade - sorry PS3 owners. The game will be out in Japan during Spring. There's no word yet on localization, but given that XBLA also got Mark of the Wolves and King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match, I'd say the odds of it making it over here are pretty high.
If you Megafans have been dying for a taste of MM10 before its March release, then have I got a treat for you. Some Megaman 10 footage was captured the Consumer Electronics Show going on this week in Vegas (I actually had an opportunity to go. I would have jumped all over it, had I known a MM10 demo would be there.) The video comes courtesy of the good folks over at The Megaman Network. Be sure to check out the rest of the videos and their in-depth hands-on Megaman 10 report here. High def footage from Digital Chumps here.
Yes, controller mods are about a dime a dozen on the Internet, but this one is special. The creator, a Ben Heck disciple that goes by techgeek90 used a RetroZone kit to attach the USB cord to the SNES controller. Inside, a USB flash drive holds as many ROMs and emulators you could ever need, making it easy to take your old school gaming on the go. If you'd like to make one for yourself, you can head on over to the Ben Heck Forums.
Someone has gone and made a table-top analog version of Pong. Actual moving parts? User-rotated scoring? This is both awesome and confusing on so many levels.
This has been bouncing about the web faster than a beach ball at a Nickelback concert, but it's awesome enough that I just had to get my own link love in as well. Some people are entirely too crafty to walk around with us mere mortals.... as evidenced by this set of 100 cupcakes depicting 100 different board/card/video games. I cant even imagine how long this must have taken, and they all look so damn good! Game names are hidden so see how many you can guess first.
I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite but my gut reaction says #60 Yar's Revenge, though #72 Zork has to be right up there too. Extra nerd points for the bevy of board games being shown off here. As far as cake crafts go, this one is going to be hard to top...
I don't typically find aquariums interesting enough to take a second look at. I mean, I like to party and all... just fish ain't my thing (certainly not in the Troy MCclure sense anyway). But if someone turns their aquarium in a battle from Halo? Yea, that's something I'm down for looking more into. I guess since it's already filled with water we missed the flood..... GET IT?????
There are only three weeks left before Tatsunoko vs. Capcom hits store shelves. And if you are more accustomed to traditional controllers, you probably don't want to play the 2.5D fighter with the Wiimote and Nunchuk combo. Maybe you don't want to drop $60 for a second Wiimote and Classic controller for your friends to use. Or maybe you have an arcade stick for PS2 that you wish you could put to use - I, for one, don't want to spend $80 on the official TvC stick, since I doubt there will be many more stick-worthy releases for the system. In any case, if you want to use a PS2 controller, don't forget to pick up one of these Gamecube to PS2 adapters. Personally, I'll be using it to play with my PS2 Street Fighter controller from NubyTech.
I bought my adapter after I heard that Tatsunoko vs. Capcom was officially being localized, and I bet a lot of people are going to do the same as the release date approaches. So if you don't want to be quarter-circling with the Gamecube / Nanchuk's octagonal gate (which is horrendous for 2D fighters) grab one of these.
Pixel Force: Left 4 Dead (which we told you about a bit ago) is now available for download! Just thought I'd let you all know. Expect a Left 4 Dead 2 demake and subsequent boycott in about, oh, a year.
I've never understood the fanboy aspect of gaming. Sure, we all have our console of choice. Whether it's the controller or the UI or the exclusives, most of us tend to favor one over the others. But the rampant claim that cause you like it it's the best (and therefore the other consoles are shit) is just stupid. Seriously idiotic. Fanboys spend their time preaching one multi-million dollar company over another... meanwhile the companies just get richer.
I never thought a product from 3M would find its way into my gaming set-up, but here I am, praising their monitor stand. You see, my monitor, like many, couldn't rotate on its X-axis. Normally, that's not a problem, but if you play a lot of vertical shoot 'em ups, you're not able to take advantage of a substantial amount of screen real estate. Using a monitor in a vertical orientation is known as "tate" mode ("length" in Japanese, pronounced "tah-tay") in the world of shmups and is the definitive way of playing. In fact, most Japanese arcade cabinets have the functionality of switching between normal and tate modes. I had been considering picking up a cheap monitor on Craigslist and building a vertical stand for it, but then I came across the Easy Adjust. And even though it was only $50, it has vastly improved my shmupping experience.
