Kutaragi has stated Sony's intention of bring a more powerful PS3 to market next year that will focus more on home theater stuff, with games and whatnot being a secondary feature.
Ken says that the new model would be more expensive, more in line with Blu-Ray recorders and High-End TV's. Kutaragi went on to add that the new version will "be a standard AV component sized box with a more powerful, power supply unit, anti-shake insulator, twice the main memory, and 2x HDMI to split sound and video output." The website giving the interview speculates that rig will cost around $2,500.
Oh, CMON! I now have to wait damn near a year for 3 huge Nintendo releases? WTF is that about! If you haven't guessed, I'm a little upset about this. Actually I'm alot upset about it.
Reliable sources close to Nintendo have said that these games have been pushed to the sidelines, and not allowed to come out and play until this time next year.
From the (web)pages of College Humor comes one of the funniest Wii-related items I've seen in a while. It's a video parade of dozens of games that we'll never see on the Wii (despite my own desperate yearning to play Mein Kampf.)
For the fourth time in a row we're getting an original title hitting Xbox Live Arcade. This week it's the Twisted Metal-like Novadrome. I spent about 5 minutes with the demo this morning and found the impression that once you get used to the controls it could probably be a fun multiplayer title. Like Small Arms getting compared to Super Smash Bros. the comparisons to Twisted Metal will be plentiful. Here's the deetz (see how hip and clever I am, using the words "deetz" instead of "details"!):
Name: Novadrome
Price: 800 Points
Available in: All Xbox Live regions
Dash Details: Single Player, Xbox Live Multiplayer 2-8, HD (High Definition). Blast, smash and crash your way to victory as you fight friends and foes alike for survival in the combat-driving, multi-player arenas of Novadrome! • Choose from frantic 8-player gameplay or single-player combat driving action set in a far-out alien world. • Play against your friends and blow them up for only 800 points! • 24 distinct off-road buggies to choose from • 15 arenas of non-stop action • 6 event types for pure Novadrome fun!
As you can probably tell from our reviews of Culture Shock and Situation Comedy, we here at BBPS are big fans of everybody's favorite freelance police, Sam and Max. Unfortunately for us though, a number of our team fall under the oft-forgotten title of "Mac Gamer." Sure, your Mac can put together a great podcast out of the box, but can it play Sam and Max? I got in touch with Telltale Games own Emily Morganti. Here's what she had to say...
A company called Vanbrio ported Out from Boneville to Mac for us, and we are seeing how that does and weighing our options for future Mac ports moving forward. Telltale is made up of a lot of Mac users or former Mac users who have crossed over to the dark side (myself included!), so we all understand the importance of bringing these games to Mac if we can swing it. In the meantime, I’m told the games run well under Boot Camp.
Sounds promising! As long as I had her on the line, I just had to ask about the possibility of Sam and Max coming to the Virtual Console. It sounded like an inevitability a few months ago, but since then we haven't heard a peep;
I don’t have an update on the Virtual Console specifically, but again, we’re looking into various possibilities with consoles and aren’t ruling anything out. Xbox Live Arcade and the Wii are two areas we’re definitely interested in exploring.
Xbox Live Arcade!?!??
Oh... The sweetness..
Even though nothing is set in stone for the Mac, VC, or XBLA, there's one very important thing we can take away from this -- Telltale's not content just leaving their masterpiece on the PC, and I can't blame them in the least.
This week's eBay ephemeron bring us what I consider to be the creepiest hand puppet ever. Seriously, buything this for your kids is like putting a severed horse head in their beds while they sleep. But if you don't mind paying the therapy bills that will eventually come from freaking the hell out of your kids with this strangly evil looking pac-man, go ahead and bid away.
Hot on the heels of the release of Episode 1: Culture Shock, Sam and Max are back again in an all new downloadable adventure. But can a title released so soon after its predecessor possibly live up to its forbearer? A few noticeable exceptions aside, I’d have to answer that question with an emphatic yes.
[update: Turns out this is false. Glad I tagged it as rumor.] It seems that there's a chance that the Wii's weather channel might be used to change in-game conditions. A person posting over on Nintendo's official Wii forums claims that if it's snowing in your area, it'll be snowing in your Madden game.
I'm tagging this as a rumor for now, since I haven't seen it myself. But it's cool enough to warrent looking into.
I remember Metropolis Street Racer used to use the internal time clock of the Dreamcast to regulate what time it would be in game. It was cool at first but got old fast. I always raced at night after work so therefore the game was always dark. The novelty wore off quickly. The only time I saw those tracks in daylight was on the weekend.
So I'm going to start a little something different with my reviews. A one-sentence break down right at the head to give you a quick hit "what I thought of it" write-up. Then if you want more details, read the rest. Respek!
So here it goes, Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin has everything you love about 2D Castlevania games, and a little bit extra just to make it better.
Let it be said... nay, screamed from the mountaintops. I LOVE me some 2D Castlevania. A perfect mix of the old school and the new. Castle explorin, Item collectin, boss battlin, level-uppin, and monster killin'. That's actually a recipe for a damn good game right there.
The last Castlevania game on the DS (Dawn of Sorrow) was probably the best since the now classic "Symphony of the Night" for the PS1, a game that brought the 2D genre back. Not to discount the Gameboy iterations, which were damn good. Portrait of Ruin is pretty much more of the same as Dawn, with a few additions that make it a must-play for fans of the series.
My good friend Edgar over at 4 color rebellion pointed me in youtube's direction this afternoon so that I might feast my eyes on the video above. It's an ad for the Xbox 360, presumably from South America, and it makes NO sense. If I close my eyes it sounds like the neighbours in my last apartment. If they really want to market the 360 in South America I think they need to put in a phone call to my old friend Bumblebee Man.
