Let Me Stand Next To Your (X)Fire

I think it's safe to say that of the regular crew here I spend the most time (and possibly the only time) playing games on my PC...especially since danzuke and Greshkov are rocking Macs at home. Since we're all about building a better community of gamers I want to extend the invitation to help me build my friends list on Xfire. If you're unfamiliar with the program it's sort of like Xbox Live for PCs. It's a central point for seeing who's online, what they're playing and getting in contact with them. It also does handy dandy things like automatically downloading patches for your installed games in the background.

My username is, of course, Harpua Scorpio. Here's my profile:

Please be my friend...pwetty pweeze?

O'Reilly warns against machines taking us over; killing John Connor

BOR.jpgNot really taking like killing us, but destroying the youth of America from the inside. WON'T SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!

Bill O'Reilly, doing his very best to top Jack Thompson, went on what one could call a little bit of a tangent about today's youth being controlled by machines. I could write-up all kinds of stuff debunking this or that but I think I'm just gonna cut this one loose. Dear readers, tell us what you think about what he's got to say.

[Transcript courtesy of GamePolitics.com]

American society is changing for the worse because of the machines… In the past to flee the real world people usually chose drugs or alcohol… now you don’t have to do that, Now all you have to do is have enough money to buy a machine…

Basically what you have is a large portion of the population, mostly younger people under the age of 45, who don’t deal with reality - ever. So they don’t know what day it is; they don’t know temperature it is; they don’t know what their neighbor looks like. They don’t know anything… because they are constantly diverted by a machine. Now what this does is it takes a person away from reality because they’ve created their own reality…

The newest thing is the PlayStation 3. Now this is a machine that allows you to play games in hi-def and all this other stuff… It’s the newest state of the art system from Sony…. It has a video game console, plays DVDs, connects you to the Internet, tells you how handsome you are. It’s six-hundred bucks. Now people lined up for hours to get this thing. Hours!...

But wait! There's more!

A new feature at TheBBPS
Written by Dan Zuccarelli

I wanted to point out real quick one of the new features we've integrated into the site.

Over on the right sidebar there's a section for our 5 most recent postings, and if you're on an individual story page, it displays a few similar stories for you to check out. It's nothing major, but it gives you quicker access to some of our older stories that you might enjoy.

Also, the reason for the double sidebar is so we can keep the same amount of important content on display at all times as we hopefully lure/trick/fool/convince advertisers to join the site. I don't want ads to come at the expense of content.

Atari 2600.... it's for the children.

Apparently this group called Little Brother had a song called "Atari 2600, it's for the children". Then someone else came along and cut together the requisite music video.

It's worth it for the deep funk and guys singing about Atari like they sing about making sweet sweet love.

"We got Q*bert, you gotta jump on them blocks, turn them shits different colors."

Sony line-up Vs. Nintendo line-up

Now this isn't a commentary on Sony fans or Nintendo fans. But most of the violence and tension seemed to be during the great PS3 campout of 2006. Most likely due to the opportunistic looking to flip it. So here's to the scalpers.

Guy breaks TV with Wiimote, blames wrist strap???

Someone over at the SomethingAwful forums has a broken HDTV from playing some Wii sports bowling. He says it was a slower game but somehow I doubt that. Either way the strap gave way and now his TV has a lovely crack. Now that sucks.

But he's blaming the wrist strap for breaking??? I was playing with the Wii all day yesterday and I can honestly say that wrist strap does what it's supposed to. It's meant to keep it tethered to you in case it slips. Like the strap on your camera, PSP, DS or whatever.

Time to get your friend some anger management and yourself a new television.

The new look of TheBBPS.com! [Updated]

Site-Redesign.jpgAs you may or may not realize, you're looking at the brand-new design of our humble little site, Bits Bytes Pixels & Sprites (If you think it's a pain in the ass to say, I'm stuck typing it all the time). The name may be a tounge twister but I've grown quite fond of it, so it's here to stay.

We started back in July with the intention to try and bring something new to the internets, a place where those of us who don't have the time to game that we'd like a place to visit. Since we don't have enough time for gaming starting a site probably wasn't the best idea, as it has eaten up a large part of my oh so little spare time. But it's been worth it. We've made friends with other great gaming sites like Destructoid, Aeropause, GayGamer, AtariAge, LastBoss, Racketboy, GamePolitics.com and more (That list is in no order at all btw, you all kick serious amounts of ass.)

I appreciate and enjoy every single hit to this site, and the people that leave comments are just icing on the cake. Thanks to each and every one of you. I'm pretty sure you guys like us, we've been on the web for almost 6 months and only 1 guy has called me a fag. With the usual discourse on the internet that has to be some kind of record.

I've got some big stuff planned. A little contest to herald in the new design, and hopefully a few new writers. And a very special holiday event. I think you'll enjoy it.

(If you find something totally Fraked on the site that I overlooked, please This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . I'll be spending most of the day working out the kinks)

[Updates]

I understand there's some problems with the sidebars on the main page in IE when you're on the front page. I'm working on it. Thanks

Why I don't like Xbox Live
Written by TheBBPS

As some of you may have noticed, DanZuke and Harpua Scorpio have had their Xbox Live Gamercards available to view since the formation of the site. Until recently, I had refused to get Live for two reasons. 1) There was nothing I was dying to play online. 2) I don't like the idea of having to download patches and what not because eventually, I will get fucked by it.

So When Gears Of War came out, I finally had an excuse to get Live. After a few days of playing Gears and checking out achievements of my friends, I decided to pop in Project Gotham 3. In case any of you haven't noticed, i dig driving games... so long as they're good. PG3 is pretty darn good, and the fact that Zuke had more things unlocked was eating me up inside. B was online for my initial run, so I downloaded the update (even though I hate that I have to if I want to play the game) and in minutes, we're racing. I had a blast, but the next day, I wanted to unlock more. I dove into my saved single player game, and bought every Ferrari and Lamborghini I could to unlock those achievements. Then it was on to race. First race, three seconds in, my screen goes crazy. How crazy you ask? Take a look at the provided picture.

WTFITS? Not only is that crap everywhere, and ever changing, but I can drive through it. I shut my system off promptly, and started it right back up. I got one race in and then the same thing happened. I deleted everything I could PG3 related off the hard drive. Same deal. I am pissed. I have to call MS tomorrow (it's sunday at 10:30p est) and see if they have a fix, but this is exactly the reason I didn't want live, and two days into having it I get bit in the ass by it. If any of you have had this happen, do feel free to chip in and offer up some knowledge. I'll update this post when/if I get an answer from Microsoft.

We'll be posting Wii and PS3 1st impressions soon but I'm not going to let that get in the way of our "Nothing happens on Sunday so let's show something non-game related" post.

Whew, that's a mouthful. That's what she said.

In the Philadelphia area? Come see the Gentleman's Rotary bring the comedy house down! Or at the absolute minimum offend someone into gasping aloud... it's happened before. Dec 1st and 2nd.
