This little story warms the corners of even my jaded heart. JimmyCanuck (routine commenter so he's aces in our book) decided he was getting tired of all the crap the PS3 line-waiters were getting into (what with being shot at and all), and decided to do something nice for them.
Commenters over on Kotaku seem to be giving him grief for doing it, but we here salute you. It's a small gesture from one gamer to another, and is how we should be treating each other anyway. With people like Jack Thompson and Leland Yee on our case, it's up to us to take care of each other.
I anticipate seeing a bunch of videos like this pop up across youtube and the life all damn day tomorrow. Friday's gonna a long day, and I'm guessing by the end of it us gamers aren't going to look good.
First I get the most excellent news that TJ&E is coming to the Wii virtual console, now I find out that Greg Johnson is working on a new DS game. But most importantly for me is the news is that there's renewed interest in the cult-favorite game. Read the entire interview here.
And when asked about the future of the Toejam & Earl series? Greg Johnson had this to say:
“The rights to the property just freed up and there is some renewed interest by some Hollywood studios, so if they decide to move forward with a series or movie, then there may yet be more ToeJam & Earl games,†he comments. “Mark and I would love to see a new multi-player ToeJam & Earl game on handheld systems.â€
Shigeru Miyamoto, the man people sometime refer to as "The Speilberg of videogames" but us gamers mostly know as Shiggy is turning 54 today.
The man somewhat responsible for Nintendo being what it is, and directly responsible for games like Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, Star Fox, Earthbound, and Zelda. Not to mention countless others.
Not to get all gushy here, but Miyamoto-san is one of the few people I would love to meet. I'm not the kind of person who'd be starstruck meeting some celebrity, but Shiggy is just in a different league to me.
To be totally honest one of the reasons I started this site was to maybe one day score an interview with him (Not that I'm under any delusion that it'll actually happen, but a man needs a dream). I could probably die a happy death after that.
At least, that's the commercial seems to be saying. From everything I've been reading, it would seem that sitting on your couch lounging is the proper way to play. But hey, when groups of people representing every walk of life get together to play games, maybe it looks like this:
I found myself over in the Deptford Mall area at Target today around 1:30pm EST and as I was pulling in the parking lot there they were, three people already sitting in chairs outside the store. After parking I wandered over and had a small conversation with the first person in line, a woman somewhere in the late thirties to early forties.
Me: "So, PS3 or Wii?"
Her: "PS3"
"Do you plan to keep it or flip it"
"Keep it"
"How long have you been here?"
"Since about 10:45 or 11"
"Do you have a High Def TV?"
"No, but we'll probably get one eventually."
"So you don't plan on taking full advantage of the Blu Ray capabilities?"
"No, but the regular Blu Ray players are at least $1000."
"You're right. Do you have a 360?"
"No, a relative has one. We have a couple of PS2s, some portables and a PS1."
Dash Details: Customize your in-game practice arena with a crest from your favorite team!
*This content will be available for Xbox Live Silver members on 11/22/06
EA's at it again. Pay 100 points and have the ability to put a logo on your practice field?!???! Are they for real? Also note the availability for Xbox Live silver members. They're starting to test the waters on withholding content from Silver members.
Dash Details: Experience BradyGames strategy for Gears of War with Cliff Bleszinski. Do you have what it takes to kill the Corpser?
A fraking video showing you how to kill one of the bosses (and it's not a hard battle). This is less of a deal to me because it's like buying the strategy/cheat guide. But still...
I know they're just throwing a bunch of shit at a wall to see what sticks, but it's still shit. Give us some good games and original content.
We all assumed that Epic would be adding more functionality and content to the multiplayer side of Gears, but now they've actually confirmed it.
On the official Gears of War message board, Mark Rein (vp of Epic Games) has a posting titled, “Gears of War. This is just the beginning!†where he says:
"Console customers, for the most part, are used to buying a game and that being, pretty much, the end of what they can expect for that game. That’s not how Epic Games works. We have a long-term history of supporting our games well after release. Since the very first Unreal Tournament game we have had a track record of excellent post-release support.
We’re going to support Gears of War and we’re going to make improvements and enhancements for it.
Right now we don’t have an exact release plan for this but we’re absolutely listening to you, our customers. Keep posting in this forum. Let us know if you find any problems. Let us know what you love and what you don’t love about the game. We’ll do out best to keep you happy playing Gears of War for years to come!"
I'm really just hoping they fix the connection problems.
