Every year a terrible thing happens: Winter. It gets cold and snowy and gross and it's pretty much the worst. But if we have to endure, and go through the necessary ritual of "layering," we might as well look good doing it, no?
Homemade Pokemon hats (above) and full face covering masks (after the jump) should kill two birds with one stone. They will keep you warm, and tell the world you play video games. Can't really go wrong with either one in my eyes.
In what's been dubbed a Game Jukebox, this Atari 2600 has a few extra switches and the ability to hold an SD card full of ROMs. Running backups on old consoles is nothing really new, but I've never seen an LCD screen installed in place of the cartridge bay. This is by far one of the sleekest looking mods ever on a 2600.
All the technical mumbo-jumbo and links are at Hack-A-Day.
Now I can't read Japanese, but I think the beginning goes something like: In 20XX, robots attacked the city again. "Oh no!" everyone cried. "Don't worry," said Mega Man. "I'll stop them." So he starts kicking ass, Protoman shows up, and he starts kicking ass as well. The day is saved.
Now we've all seen Sheep Man, but what about the rest of the robot masters? We only get glimpses of their silhouettes. Easy Mode seems a little too easy, but at least will let you finish the game before you smash your controller into your skull.
This show's itinerary has some lofty goals. In addition to our normal what we've been playing segment we were going to talk about some of our favorite games of the decade, some news and some new releases. Instead? We talk about what we've been playing and why 1 of us is TOTALLY wrong about Assassin's Creed 2. Care to guess who? I'd go into what other tangents the podcast veers off to but that would just ruin the fun of making you listen to it, though we do make mention of some ideas for a games based on Canterbury Tales.
"...an homage to a bunch of different zombie related influences: Dawn of the Dead, Shaun of The Dead, The Evil Dead, Left 4 Dead, Resident Evil and MJ's Thriller to name a few. I imagine this guy is probably making a last stand as a distraction whilst his friends get to the chopper."
If I didn't already have a "Straight Edge Means I Party Sober," sticker on my Macbook, I would buy one of these instantly. There's also a Yoshi one, and more on the LapTatt Etsy store.
I've only seen this trailer, and haven't gotten to watching the whole thing yet, but this looks super cheesy AND super awesome. It definitely has "Plans For A Lazy Sunday Afternoon" written all over it.
See the entire movie (almost 2 hours!) at Geekologie.
With the announcement of Mega Man 10, (and my already well established Mega Man obsession) it'd be hard to not be in a Mega Man kind of mood right now. Well I've got just the thing for that. A Mega Man Remix Album, made by ilp0.
I've taken a listen to most of the tracks. Some of them may not be up your alley (in fact, a few are dreamy enough to put you right to sleep), but eh, its nice to get some Mega Man fan music that isn't Minibosses, for once! Either check out the original artist's site (bandwith is currently exceeded) or the mirror site at The Megaman Universe, where you can download the entire album.
Taylor Chipped has been quite a labor of love for me. The fourth release from Beta Club Field Trip, it's an 8-bit tribute to America's sweetheart Taylor Swift. Four covers, two new original songs, and limitless fun. Stream or download it for free at www.betaclubfieldtrip.com
Fellow NYC chiptuner adamagetsawesome has released AGA. This record is great, especially "Dead Guy." Download the five tracks here, or look for him at Blip Fest to get a physical copy.
If you've been to Blip Festival before, you've been waiting for Blip Fest '09 since you the final night of Blip Fest '08. It's a big deal in the chiptune community. People come from around the globe, literally, for three nights of the best bleeps and bloops out there. As with any good festival though, the awesomeness cannot be contained in what's officially scheduled. Performances and parties spill over into the adjacent days before and after the official festival. So how will you catch it all?
Luckily, Zen Albatross has created an Unofficial Guide to Blip Festival 2009 that will get you caught up on the pre-parties, film screenings, lectures, after-parties, and after-after-parties. Start catching up on sleep now. You'll be hopping around NYC and seeing sprites all week long.
As always, I'll be there dancing up a storm and throwing back caffeine free non-alcoholic drinks. Come find me and say hello. For all the details, visit the official Blip Fest site.
