1up gobbled up by UGO, people suffer

1upUgh, the ugly world of mergers and buyouts rears it's ugly head once again, and just as I was really getting into the 1up podcasts. Of course the post isn't about me not getting my weekly 1up Yours dose, it's about good and talented people losing their jobs.

It's been round the web for a bit now but it bears mentioning that 1up Network (which includes GameVideos.com, MyCheats.com and GameTab.com) have been gobbled up by UGO.com. To be honest I didn't even know UGO was even still around. Go figure.

Details are still coming but lists are coming together of the people let go (put together from tweets, forums, phonecalls, etc) and the list is, how you say, long.

This also means EGM Magazine is ending it's run this month, can't wait to see what crap magazine they finish out my subscription with.

This just sucks. They were a unique and talented group over there, it's a shame to see that being broken up. Here's to hoping they all land on their feet pretty soon.

*Pours one out.*

Sad to see it happen but it's not like this hasn't been coming down the pipe for awhile now with the trouble Ziff Davis has been having.

Yea, certainly not a surprise that it happened, but I'm kinda surprised to see so make people laid off that fast.... seems like ugo is just content to use the name 1up and not much else.

Holy shit, they fired 1UP. What a bunch of wankers (UGO).

ONly good thing I can see in this is, they fired a complete production an editorial team. So it's very possible that most of these people will re-appear in the same place. I expect a Giant Bomb'-style spinoff soon.

Ryan, we've known UGO is a bunch of wankers for awhile now. Not surprised to only see them be interested in the name, not the people.
