23 Monsters to Crush Tokyo in Godzilla: Unleashed

spacegodzilla.jpgFunny that this news should come down the wire today. I watched the last 20 minutes of Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla last night and came to the conclusion that the last 20 minutes is all you'll ever need to see of a Godzilla flick. Everything else is just poorly dubbed humans running around in circles afraid of the coming doom. Why watch that when you can skip right to the ass-kicking? Thankfully, Atari's Godzilla games focus on the ass-kickery of the films and the not 70 minutes before it..

Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters and Godzilla: Save the Earth weren't brilliant games, but if you put a few people in your living room with controllers you were guaranteed a Smash Bros level of fun. Combine that with my love of general geekery and I can't wait to get my hands on Godzilla: Unleashed.

It'll be on DS, PSP and Wii, so it looks like we'll be lacking online multiplayer at home. That's a shame - fighting games without an online component nowadays seem to be missing the boat. There are going to be 23 monsters in total, two of which were created just for this game. So far they've announce Godzilla 2000, Kiryu (aka MechaGodzilla), Gigan and Megalon. The rest of the 23 will be announced on the official website between now and the games release this fall.
