2K making a return to videogame football!

600409.jpgWhen EA decided it would rather buy out the license of the NFL than innovate and compete on an even playing field, it hurt. It hurt gamers and it hurt games in general. The idea that it was just simpler to effectively force your competetor ouf of the market, and not thorough creating a better product, is a bad road to go down. I rarely played football games and I'm still pissed off about it.

Dreamcast players are the ones most likely to remember the 2K line of sports games, including the fantastic NFL games. They continued onto the PS2 and Xbox (up till 2K5), but were scuttled by the EA deal. But after Midway had some success with their "Blitz" games, it would seem that there just might be room out there for another football game, albeit one without the NFL teams or playes.

"Football gamers have been awaiting the return of the 2K series," said Visual Concepts president Greg Thomas. "All-Pro Football 2K8 will deliver an authentic next generation gridiron experience and we are happy to give fans another choice in the football category."

Personally I probably won't buy it anyway, working for the NFL I get about as much football as I can handle (and I can't handle much). But if I end up with the desire to play a football game, you can bet your ass I'll be getting the 2K version.

About the NFL problem.

Make an extensive Create a Team feature. Let people upload any image they like on their SD-cards (in the Wii's case... don't know what the others use) for the team logos/designs. Make each individual team it's own save file, copyable to and from SD card (or whatev).

Bam! if you have a big enough fanbase to create them for you, you just got the NFL in your game and there's nothing EA can do about it. Anyone can figure this one out, even Sega!
