A few more details on that Simpsons game...

Two weeks ago we reported that EA would be working on a new Simpsons title that would parody/borrow from a number of established titles and franchises. Over at Advanced Media Network, they were lucky enough to attend a press event to celebrate the shows 400th episode where a few more beans were spilled on the new title;

  • confirmed multi-platform
  • 53 minutes of episode quality cinematics
  • The Wii version will include a minigame where players use the wiimote as a Homer's spoon in an eating competition
  • 16 levels, each with it's own characters and story
  • ability to switch between two different family members or play split-screen co-op

AMN was also got an early look at the game. Their impressions?;

The game was running at 30 fps and looked strikingly similar to the cartoon....The level that was shown at the event was called "Around the World in 80 Bits" and featured Homer eating a bunch of ethnic foods (including the Insanity Chili Pepper from the "Vision Quest" episode) and growing into a huge, Katamari-esque, ball of lard."

Simpsons games are a funny thing. With the exception of Road Rage, Simpsons games are generally doomed to shittiness before they ever hit store shelves, and yet I can't help but get excited.

Not "Road Rage." Surely you meant to say "Hit and Run!"

The Simpson's Hit and Run was a derivative GTA clone with sloppy controls. It was also the greatest Simpson's game ever made. Lots of awesome voicework and a 3D rendered Springfield make it a "must-play" for any Simpson's fan.

Yes, "Hit & Run" was the best of the franchise. It was truly a gift to the fans, as it was loaded with references to many episodes.

Really? I didn't like Hit & Run. I honestly meant Road Rage. Come on -- the panda in Moe's trunk, Ralph saying "My pee came out" -- how is that not the quintessential Simpsons game?
