Atari 2600 turns 30 this year! Another "I'm getting old" reference coming up!

So during this week's podcast I revealed that this year is the 25th anniversary of G.I. Joe (Real American Hero), and today we find out that this year is also the Atari 2600's big 3-0 birthday bash! Since I remember when we first got one one could infer that I'm feeling old today.

I spent A LOT of time with that machine, and played games both great and terrible. With memories both good and bad, I can say without a hint of irony that very much of who I am today is because of the Atari. I got my interested in technology and computers, and it gave me the confidence and ok to play with the world around me. Not be afraid to manipulate what I see.

Without that system I probably wouldn't have a job in computers, or be running this website. I imagine I'd be a totally different person if it weren't for my parents encouraging me to embrace technology.
