I've been really getting into these Atari homebrew games lately. There's just something so cool about playing a brand new games for my Atari 2600. A few months back I posted reviews of Return to Castle Wolfenstein (kinda like Venture), and Ultra SCSIcide (like Kaboom! but much harder).

Browsing the AtariAge store I come to find out they have a yearly Christmas themed game, specially numbered just for the holidays. It peaks the interest of the Atari and the "limited run" portions of my brain, at which point my mind takes control of my body and hands over my credit card number before I can protest. A few weeks later, ToyShop Trouble hits my doorstep. How much fun was it?

toyshopscreen1.jpgSanta and the elves have decided that they've had enough and have gone south for the winter. Now it's up to you, the one lonely elf who's stayed behind, to prep all the toys for all the good boys and girls.

In this game, that means painting the toys their proper colors. The board is lined with different colors, and the unpainted toys move along conveyer belts in the center.

In the beginning it's simple... red for firetrucks, green for godzillas, white for AT-AT walkers. Then the difficulity ramps up. Toys begin to require two colors... white and brown for ships, red and blue for rockets, etc. Then the two colors need to be painted on in a specific order. So on and so forth.

Of course the game starts off nice and easy, 1 toy and 1 color, letting you get used to the ebb and flow of the game. Eventually, you're painting 6 different things at once, using different colors to complete some and start others. It's cool, and gets very frantic very quickly.

I had a ton of fun with the game, and as the game moves along it gets very difficult to keep track of what colors go with what toys. Though I wish the game had a bit more to it. It's fun, but after awhile it begins to wear thin. After playing for a bit I'm in no rush to go back to it.

I'm giving this limited edition game a 6 out of 10.
