BaRPG: Best Idea I'll Probably Never Get To Implement

A few months ago, while walking to some craptastic bar on 34th Street for a girl from New Jersey's birthday party, my best pal Jonah and I hatched the most brilliant idea for drunk nerds everywhere:  BaRPG. An  RPG/dive bar hybrid, featuring all the staples of role playing games, and hole in the wall NYC bars!

Like this, but in RL!

Basically, with only a few nights of actual planning, it works like this:  The first time you enter the bar, you receive a card of some sort.  It's your Level Card.  First time you visit, you're admitted and given a brand spanking new Level 1 Card.  Level 1s only get one beer.  No liquor.  Just one.  So if you come back the next night, you can get to Level 2, and get 2 beers and so on.  Eventually the levels go higher and you can drink as much as you want.  You can only be served the limit that pertains to your level.

Random Battles:  One patron can challenge another patron to random battles, or mini-drink offs.  Winner levels up double, loser has to leave.  If lower level patrons defeat higher level patrons, they get bonus stuff.  Okay, so all the details aren't worked out but you get the idea...something like that.

And somewhere Limit Breaks come into play.  I'm thinking this has to do with Last Call or people getting kicked out of the bar.  Patrons can party up and become clans and so on.  Combining their levels and items to get the most out of the BaRPG experience.

So it's rough around the edges, and maybe couldn't be a full time thing, but the seeds of genius are there.  It may be better suited for a theme night once a week at an existing place, rather than a full on bar too.  Possibilities are endless.   Would you guys be interested in attending BaRPG?  What changes or additions would you make?  Let the "I could level up so much faster than you" pissing contest begin.

On Saturday night I was Level 10 East Coast Canadian drunk. I started out on my training stage (home) with two glasses of wine. Then I went to the next stage (bar) and drank multiple beer and shots. At some point I started doing the robot next to the bar in order to gain some experience points with the NPCs (ladies). Alas, the dungeon keepers (bouncers) decided I'd had enough leveling up, and politely kicked me out of my gaming session. Fuckers.

I'm throwing this into my "possible ideas for XNA games" pile, I'll call it a broguelike or something.

What an amazing idea.

Also, I am very entertained by the "broguelike" title. smilies/wink.gif

You feel not your best. You have been gone for a month, drunk since you left. You feel like these so-called "vacations" will soon be your death. Your quest is find your way home to as you as so sick from the drink, you need home for a rest.

It is December. You are in London. It is cold.
>look

You are in a bar on Charing Cross Road. You see nothing but brass taps and oak.

>shine bar
You do not have to shine it as it been shined the sleeves of you and your companions' coats

>leave bar
You are at Euston Station

>enter train
Which direction?
>n

The train heads along the track unsteadly past old crooked dykes through Yorkshire's green fields.

You are in the buffet car. You are finding it hard to stand up as the car lurchs back and forth.

>stand
You cannot steady yourself and fall over.

>sit
The car is too full. There is nowhere to sit.

>dance
You fling into dance, deftly staying upright as the train jigs and reels. The train stops and you exit and head right into the nearest bar. Time passes, it is late, you are drunk again and the pubs are now closing.

>look
It is dark, but uou see her by the light of the moon. She is drifting through the streets, a seductive and sweet perfume surrounding her.

>approach
She teases and flirts with you.

>walk home
She follows you home, the flirting and teasing continue you as you approach your house

>nightcap
You enter your house alone, having been denied a round.

It is cold and damp.
>go downstairs

You are in the gas heater room.
>check heater

The gas heater is empty. You see apparations of an elephantine, with a hazy pink glow.

>go upstairs
You are in your bedroom. You feel knackered, again.

>sleep
Until when?

>The twelve bells at noon

[...] one with its own lead character.  The game throws 30-second bits of action, RTS, shooting, and RPG gameplay at your face, just to see you try to make sense of it all.  The trailer is pretty sparse [...]
