Behold The True Future Of Gaming

Below is the trailer for Battlefield: Heroes. Watch it, then I'll join you again afterwards.

Enjoy.

Big deal, it's free. Right? Absolutely. That's point and that's where the immense brilliance of EA and DICE's plan works: The only way to launch the game is to go to your web browser of choice, hit up Battlefield-Heroes.com and hit the play now button. Everything about it is free. There will be no pirating and the developer and distributor will still make money through the ads on the home page. According to the cover story from the current Games For Windows Magazine the game's system specs will be very scalable so that you can play it on almost any PC, much like WoW. It's going to be more accessible than any other Battlefield game before it. The art style is extremely appealing and friendly and wait before you start screaming that they're just ripping off Team Fortress 2, when DICE started working on Heroes TF2's art hadn't been released yet.

The Battlefield series is immensely popular, so there's a built in audience. Offering the game for free is going to draw in a huge number of people to at least try it out. This is the future of gaming, this is where it's all heading. Sure, the Wii is drawing in a large number of people who don't game, and that's great, but this is where gaming as the rest of us know it is going to end up. Battlefield: Heroes is just way ahead of the curve.

I am so unbelievably in. There's a quart of drool on my shirt after that trailer. TF2ish art style + warhawkish 3rd person gameplay? Sign me the fuck up!

I absolutely ADORE FPS games that have vehicles in them. In fact, I would say Tribes 2 is my favorite game of all time. I also have a soft sport for Battlefield games- although I don't routinely play them (usually because my PC's specs are outdated), this one could prove to be a staple of mine.

I seriously laughed at the little section where he said "you don't download it from BitTorrent," complete with a screenshot of The Pirate Bay. This one looks truly promising.
