BIT.TRIP BEAT: Low-Rez Awesomeness

Aksys Games has just announced a new WiiWare title being developed Gaijin Games.  Bit.Trip Beat is a retro paddle-and-ball game that, in the vein of Rez and Lumines, integrates music creation with gameplay.  Oh, and the graphics, like Rez and Lumines again, will make you think you're tripping balls.

While the gameplay is somewhat simple, the developers promise that Beat.Trip Beat will be a struggle for those in search of a high score - easy to play, hard to master.  It seems that the development team has been heavily influenced by the work of Tetsuya Mizuguchi.

The game's blog mentions that BTB will feature chiptune music to complement its retro design and aesthetics.  It is currently unclear if the soundtrack will be specifically designed for the game, or if it will feature any of the prominent chiptune musicians, like NullSleep or Bit Shifter.

The release date for the game is currently unknown.  The ESRB has yet to rate it, so it might be a while before you can get your hands on the retro goodness.  In the meantime, check out the game's trailer at the official site.
