Castlevania movie in the works

Slated to start shooting in the spring, with around a $50 million dollar budget. Let's hope it escapes the trap most video game to movie translations get stuck in.

Writer/director Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil, Aliens Vs. Predator) had this to say about the movie:

"It's going to explain how the Belmont clan and Dracula first come into contact, so in a way, it's going to be a genesis story of the clash between the Belmonts and Dracula. It's going to span the ages as well, which is one of the fun things about the games. There are Castlevania games in the 1500s, there are Castlevania games in the Second World War, there are Castlevania in the future, and we're going to take the same kind of approach. It's going to be a very mythic story spanning hundreds of years, but the key characters are going to be Dracula and Simon Belmont. And the whip is going to be intact, although there'll be lots of other weaponry as well."

[Thanks Frank!]

Well, it's an interesting idea. If done well, it could be kickass. If done wrong at all, the thing will be all over the place, and very confusing.

Here's hoping, anyway.

Well, I never saw AvP.... but I'm sure Mr. Anderson is no Uwe Boll, and like most movies modeled after video games, it won't be that great....Street Fighter The Movie is one of the true great pieces of cinematic genius ever captured on celluloid... it's just a shame that Van Damme could never top that Oscar worthy role as Guile. Seriously though, if the trailers look halfway promising, I will want to go see Castlevania.....I'm glad that for once I actually did something (somewhat) useful with the internet.

smilies/sad.gif Oh no, he ruined the alien and Predator franchises... now he's out to make sure Castlevania will never become a movie franchise. BLARGH!

WTF???...What about Iga´s CastleVania´s genesis between Leon Belmont and Mathias Cronqvist???
That movie is not representative for the genesis that this guy wants to show...abviously this is pure merchandise, and we´ll soon see little Draculas and Simons in BK or McD. That´s a total shame...Where´s Igarashi´s cooperation?????
