cloverstudio.jpg[UPDATE: A source who wishes to remain anonymous is telling me that the Clover gang actually wants to split from Capcom and form their own independent development studio. So the dissolution, then, would have been caused by the developers deciding to take off. -Wired News] I'm trying to confirm this, and I'll update as soon as I find out.

Many of us were just getting to know the genius that seemed to reside at Clover Studio. The developemnt team responsible Viewtiful Joe, God Hand, and Okami really seemed to be a place for us gamers to point to as a place where creativity thrived. Sadly, as the sales figures for this years Madden game patch can attest, one doesn't get rich trying to do something inventive and different these days. In a strike against thinking outside the box, Capcom has decided to dissolve Clover Studio in a bid to increase efficiency. It's such a shame to see a studio like Clover be shut down. It's another nail in the coffin of invnetive and outside the mainstream game design.

Here's the obituary/press release
