Contest: I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore

volcano.gifContest is over. But the article is still good :)

I have a bad temper, and video games bring it out in a very “colorful” way. After talking to a few other people, I’ve gather a few good stories about things we’ve done when pissed off by a video game, and rather than writing some article discussing why I might be mad, I’m just going to share some of the stories with you. Enjoy.

We look forward to getting some good stories from you. We'll post them all when the contest is over.

-I’m a controller breaker, and what started out as me throwing controllers across the room one day got taken to a new level. The day Virtua Fighter 4 came out for the PS2 I bought it and couldn’t wait to get home and play it. I loved the first two, and made due with the third, but the fourth was going to be amazing. And amazing it was. What it also was, was cheap. After getting my ass handed to be by Jackie for the third straight time, I got pissed, and turned the game off. Ten minutes later I thought I’d give the game another go around. I started off really well, beating everyone up to Akira. I spent five minutes trying to beat him and he just kept mopping the floor with me every time. It wasn’t even close. The last time it was just obvious the A.I. was being a cheap bastard, and in between rounds I just twisted the controller and it snapped. Not a SNAP! “oh, my controllers cracked!” but a SNAP! “I twisted everything in half, and now I have two pieces to do nothing with.” My friend B still finds this so funny that when he told me Virtua Fighter 5 was going to be a PS3 launch game he in the same breath mentioned my getting two controllers. Lesson learned.

-My friend and I had his mom rent us Buster Douglas Knockout Boxing. After getting his lights punched out by yours truly my friend stands up, yells at the top of his lungs about how “unfair” it was and kicked the game. Remember, Genesis games were top mounted, so he kicked the game in half. After nearly crapping my pants, we hopped on our bikes, bought super glue and spent the next 2 hours using pliers to get the rest of the game out, and gluing it back together. I remember him even wrapping a layer of scotch tape around it for added measure and then we biked some five miles to the store and dropped it off in the drop box. I still piss myself laughing every time I picture his face after he kicked that thing.

-One cold, rainy night, I refused to let my sister watch T.V. because I was too busy playing Mike Tyson’s Punchout. Upset with me, she grabbed the Nintendo and threw it out the window. It was a three story drop, but luckily, all the rain had made a nice muddy soft spot for it to land in. That, and the fact that the NES is shaped like a brick, helped the system survive its fall and go on to live another six months before being forgotten due to my Genesis.

-While this story doesn't involve breaking anything, it does include a man reaching hs breaking point. Our own danzuke was trying his best to beat Driver 2 on the PS2. Anyone who's played that or the sequel know how cheap the game can be. After trying to beat the second to last level for over 2 hours straight, he finally lost it. He ejected the disc, put it in the case, and drove directly to the game store to trade it in. Didn't even turn off the system.

-This one is by far my favorite. A co-worker of mine got so pissed playing Madden he threw and broke his PS2 controller. He then goes out, buys another controller and when he gets home, he cuts the controller’s cord while trying to open the sealed plastic packaging. At that point he’s so mad he just stands there, completely dumbfounded by his actions. He stopped playing games for over a month.

So what's your best story?

What the hell is wrong with you people?

Haven't you ever heard of controlling your emotions? I learned at a very young age, when typing in buggy computer games from magazines, that anger against inanimate objects accomplishes nothing.
