Crayon Physics Deluxe: quick demo impressions

In my ususal internet haunts, I recently came across mention of a game that had been earning some attention: Crayon Physics Deluxe.  I'm never one to indulge much in PC experimentation, but this game, at first blush, had all the markings of something I'd love to give a whirl.  And after watching the following video, I was even more intrigued.

If there was ever a reason to own a tablet/touch-screen PC, this might be a good one.

Suffice to say I downloaded the Crayon Physics Deluxe demo almost immediately.  Hit the jump for some quick impressions.

Crayon Physics Deluxe appears to have no premise to speak of, offering heightened atmosphere and pitch perfect style instead.  Over an Enya-envious soundtrack meant to lull you into a trance, you draw crayon objects on slightly weathered parchment in an effort to move a red ball to a yellow star.

This little experiment is a slickly produced "game" in the slightest sense; you're making crayon drawings that obey the laws of physics so that other objects obeying the laws of physics can meet-up and touch.  There are some very creative puzzle elements, mind you, so you're likely to tease your brain during your play time.

You'll move from scenario to scenario across what appear to be seven islands, layed out on a map adorned with cute and clever crayon drawings.  More importantly, however, are the creative solutions one can engage in - the extent of which are very impressive, as more video examples at Kloonigames' blog highlight.

The fun you have will likely be proportionate to how far you're willing to experiment, and how many disgusting body parts your sick and twisted imagination can come up with in order to coax that ball across the stage.  For what's it's worth, I spent a pleasant hour or so in a relaxing mid-afternoon engagement with Crayon Physics Deluxe, and will likely come back to it again to see how far I can stretch my creative muscles.

Whenever I see one of those "physics" games, it brings me back to College. A few friends and I stumbled on an actual physics simulation software on the school network. After playing around with it, we realized that it could be a pretty fun, open game. In no time, we had trucks going down roads, running over crash dummies and getting hit by random giant balls falling from the sky... all this from a physics educational software! It was pretty awesome what we could all come out with.
