PlayPS3 has a few screenshots showing the differences between the old 480p output of the PS3 and the new (cause of the 1.8 firmware) 1080p upscaled versions.

But... doesn't the second screenshot look much more blurry, which hides the rough polygon edges? How is that an improvement?
