Japanese gamers and rich-kid importers have had their hands on the Nintendo DSi for a while now, and it didn't seem like North American would see the new handheld until the summer at the earliest. But Nintendo have just revealed that the DSi will hit the shores on April 5th.And it gets even better. The DSi will only cost $170 - only $40 more than the DS Lite. Play-Asia and other importers were selling the system for over $200, so I'm sure wallets everywhere sighed a breath of relief. The North American version of the system will come in matte black (AKA HAL 9000) and an awesome shade of blue. To be honest, I wasn't that excited about the DSi until I saw the new color.
So get ready, Nintendo fans, because the third iteration of the DS hardware is finally in sight. Judging by the life of the GBA SP, this is probably the last update to the DS before a total overhaul. It's too bad, too, because I was really hoping for a super-slim, super-secksy version. Oh well, at least it's blue.
