On just about every single videogame blog out there are the stories about E3 being cancelled. The main reason being the money spent vs. return. It's still just rumor at this point, so we here are still going to consider this very very unconfirmed. Especially because every post originates from this article over at Next-Gen.biz. I used to love Next-Gen magazine, but I think that thay may be getting a little to ahead of themselves here. (In a real red flag move, they START the story with the link to digg.com). Seriously, they're headline says "E3: FINISHED" As opposed to Gamepot's follow-up, "ESA to downsize E3?" (notice the question mark, since it's still all just rumor") Personally, I find it impossible to believe that the largest video game convention on earth would just vanish, especially because up till now we've never heard that much complaining from people about the price. Most of the bitching comes from the journalists about what a pain in the ass it is to cover. I could see it shrinking though, but it can't just go away. E3's official website has the dates already printed out for 2007 (also says planning is already underway). Anyone know how far in advance the LA Convention Center needs confirmation? But wait.. what's this? ArsTechnica is running a more balanced story about CHANGES and downsizing coming, not cancellation. This I can kind of understand. The show was so HUGE one had to kinda wonder how it was able to support itself. But any changes will be unwelcome ones to the fans. But for the time being... let's all calm the hell down. At least until we know the full story. Though I'm starting to feel like I had good timing with the last 2 E3's being my first and second trips there. While it may not be cancelled, it's probably going to be toned down. Click here to read Next-Gen's alarmist "press release". Click here for ArsTechnica's calmer story And Gamespot's follow-up
