The long anticipated social updates for Xbox 360 came out today, and Xbox Live Gold Members can now connect to their Facebook, Twitter, and Last.FM profiles via the console. There's also a Zune Marketplace addition. First announced at E3, I was eagerly awaiting the Twitter integration. I imagined a day where unlocking an achievement would instantly tweet out that I was kicking ass at video games. But alas, it isn't so.
The Twitter application is solely the basics of Twitter, just on your Xbox. You can view your profile, followers, tweets and @ mentions on you Xbox, but there's no sort of integration into any games (at least, not yet.) To that I ask, what's the point? I'm going to exit a game and go back to the dashboard just to send a tweet. Most of us probably have a computer nearby our consoles, or a phone with ability to go online or text tweets.
From what I could tell, the Facebook feature works in the same way. It at least, however, featured the ability to see which of your Facebook friends had Xbox Gamertags and instantly friend request them. More of that please.
So is anyone using these new abilities? Are you happy with the update, or disappointed? Any troubles you've ran into?
