I'm gonna need you to fix this 360 console for the price of... on the house

cash.gifTo sum it up, Microsoft is covering repair costs now for broken 360's made in 2005, extending the warranty to the end of the year.

In a quick reversal, the $139 I just paid Microsoft this past Sunday night after my 360 broke is being refunded. Free repair FTW!

I learned this quite by accident since I decided to follow up with customer support to find out where the hell my empty UPS box was there were supposed to have to me in 2 days so I could ship my console back to them to get fixed.

It would seem the comapny has pulled a total 180 and is now covering the repair costs of any console made prior to 2006. In other words if you bought the console at launch or for Christmas, you won't have to pay anything to have it fixed up.

So if you've recently had your fixed or it's currently broken (Fronz this may apply to you), call up and make sure you're getting it fixed on their dime (It's actually 1390 dimes, but you get the drift)

awwwwwww crap. So uh... I bought it at like noon on new years day - literally the first day of 2006.... I doubt Microsoft knows the exact date, i could probably say i got it a few days before then - this is definitely sweet news though, i'm gonna do some more phone calling tomorrow - thanks a ton!!

[...] Much love goes out to Danzuke from BitsBytesPixels Sprites — A few months ago my warranty-lackin g 360 broke and I’ve been too lazy/pissed/broke to do anything about it til now. A few days ago I started the 2 week long, yet simple, process of getting it fixed/replaced for the relatively cheap price of 9. Then Danzuke, who was going through the same process at the same time, found out that Microsoft just changed their repair rules and will now fix/replace any Xbox 360 manufactured in 2005 (the date is engraved on the back of the console) for FREE! That’s right free, here’s the customer support number you need: 1-800-4MYXBOX (1-800-469-9269). And when the UPS guy comes 3 days later be sure to throw your 360 out the window at him and tell him its FREE when he has to pick up all the HD-DVDless pieces.        [...]

I already paid that 9 to Microsoft to have mine fixed. I bought mine the 1st week it was available. Can they reimburse me with 3 free years of Xbox Live Gold Membership?

Is there any particular problem, or that the thing just doesn't work anymore?

When you power up the console, before the 360 logo pops up, the green "ring" aroung the power button turns red. Customer service said it was a general hardware failure (whatever that means)... but there's no way to fix it myseld and needs to get sent in for service.

Xbox 360 sucks
I'm getting mine fixed, and selling that piece of crap
3 rings of light my azz
I paid ALOT of money to have a working console....never had one issue with my PS One or PS2 in the past 10 years.
Microsoft is not doing anyone a "favor" by fixing their defective units.
They never should have shipped them and sold them to begin with.

God Bless PS3....I seriously should have known better,
