Activision announces partial list for Guitar Hero 80's edition (and slips some horrible news in as well)

Finally, months after the initial announcement of a coming 80's edition of Guitar Hero II we finally have some songs to (maybe?) look forward to. Here's what we get so far:

  • I Wanna Rock (by Twisted Sister)

  • I Ran (by Flock of Seagulls)

  • Round and Round (as made famous by Ratt)

  • I Want Candy (as made famous by Bow Wow Wow)

  • Metal Health (as made famous by Quiet Riot)

  • Holy Diver (as made famous by Dio)

  • Heat Of The Moment (as made famous by Asia)

Those with a keen eye will probably guess that "I Wanna Rock" and "I Ran" are most likely master recordings, since there's no "as made famous by" tagline.

I gotta admit so far this list is kinda... meh. With the exception of Twister Sister of course. And how can you include Quiet Riot and not use "Cmon feel the noize"?

Now the bad news, the press release says this game is going to be a PS2 exclusive! BOO! Of course we all know why, this way they can sell the songs to us 360 owners piecemeal and charge a few bucks a song. Activision, please say it ain't so.

While I don't have the game or any intent on buying it in the foreseeable future (why, when I can just bring out my acoustic?), the additions of Holy Diver and Heat of the Moment sounds pretty cool. Loved both of those songs growing up and they still get rather heavy airplay on my iPod.

To be honest, I am totally all about the possibility of getting these tunes via downloadable content. It's better than not getting them at all, and I'm all about Flock of Seagulls.

Plus you never know - we could get it as a one set price expansion pack a la The Shivering Isles and save an arm and a leg over the PS2 retail version.

Although "made famous" by Quiet Riot, "Cum on Feel the Noise" was originally written and recorded by Slade. Probably some sticky licensing issues there.

And did Flock of Seagulls even have a guitar player in the band? Weren't they just two guys on synths with an electric drum machine. This isn't Synthesizer Hero!

Frankly, Guitar Hero is losing its metal edge. The 80s were full of awesome music, but it didn't come from poser bands like Ratt and Motley Crue. Where's the MAIDEN?!?!?!

I didn't see anything on the official press release, but some sites are calling this an "add-on pack." What's the word?

I just eBay'd my Guitar Hero II bundle for PS2 because I got the 360 version, and I'd hate to have to buy the game again just to play these new songs.
