Gran Turismo HD for PS3 to be free download

I think I just heard Greshkov scream with happiness!

Over at Kotaku they're saying that beginning December 24th, what's now called Gran Turismo Concept will be available at the Playstation store. No longer a stand-alone game, but as a free download. In Japan. (I just heard Greshkov scream in anger). No word on how many tracks or cars will be included. Or on a worldwide release. It's basicially a playable demo of Gran Turismo 5. It would seem Polyphonic Digital have decided to spend their time on Gran Turismo 5 instead.

Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi had this to say:

Gran Turismo HD is the bridge to GT5, there would be no GT5 without this game.

Since Kotaku cites 2 soucres that are completely in Japanese I guess I'll just have to believe them. Of course this picture that I found on the site certainly lends some credibility to the free game claim.

Sure the PS3 will give you Gran Turismo HD free - but can it make a waffle?

i've had a few days to think about this, and the story is off the main page, but i'll still comment. fantastic idea having be a free download. terrible idea not letting us 'mericans get it the twenty fourth as well. honestly though, i bet it's only a handfull of cars and three tracks tops. or one track with a handfull of stock (or racing only) cars. kind of like turismo three's demo. i'm not let down or excited, but i will be the first asshole in line in 2009 when GT5 drops.
