Guerrilla Marketing hits Flickr?

When I checked my email this morning, something rather peculiar was waiting for me from flickr. The subject line read "You are Dirty1CMD's newest contact!" The only problem? I don't know anyone named Dirty1CMD.

Still - I get it. Sometimes people add people to their friends list just based on photos, and that's that. But still, I was too intrigued not to investigate a little further and check out his profile -- and what did I find when I got there?

I've set this site up to showcase images from the new Colin Mcrae Dirt game. Here's some info. on the game features, I managed to get hold of:

Ouch.. If that doesn't scream guerrilla advertising, I don't know what does. He even lists his profession as "Playing too many Video and PC games." The entire profile is basically a press release for the game. Even stupid people shouldn't be falling for this one. But still - there it is, plain as day.

In some cases guerrilla marketing rocks. Take the Aqua Teen fiasco a few months back - that was brilliant. But this thing smacks more of All I want For Xmas than it does Boston bomb scare, and that's just not cool.

Check out Dirty1CMD's flickr profile here.
