Guitar Hero III may be online, but will it be "Nintendo" online?

Something has been chirping away at the back of my head for awhile now. If Guitar Hero III's biggest new feature is it's online multiplayer, yet Nintendo has been nothing short of belligerent to third party publishers wanting to take their Wii games online, what will this mean for the upcoming Wii version of GHIII?

I contacted Bryan Lam, Senior PR Specialist with Red Octane, to try and get an answer. Here's what he had to say;

"we're working closely with Nintendo for an online solution, though at the moment we're unable to confirm the status of the online multi-player."

So there you have it. It's not definitely out, but it's not definitely in either. If you're a Wii owner and a bit of a hermit, you may want to cross your fingers if you're looking to partake in some online battles this fall.

EDIT:  I followed up with Bryan this afternoon.  This should come as no surprise, but the same position holds true for downloadable content.  Sigh.

Great, here we go again. We will have to re-live the 360 Guitar Hero II debacle.

This is the standard answer when a PR person is instructed not to talk about anything. It means absolutely nothing as far as whether or not the game has online play.

IGN got a playtest with the game and confirmed that there was a Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection on the menu.

I doubt we'll see downloadable content because of Wii space limitations, but there will definitely be online play.

[...] Following up with Lam, BBPS reports that this also applies to downloadable content. Shame. That doesn’t sound promising at all, and would leave the Wii version looking more than a little gimped. Guitar Hero III may be online, but will it be “Nintendo” online? [BBPS] [...]

As a small time games designer myself, they always leave the online function of the games creation business until the end, And as usual most want to know all the details before the man even knows himself, I`m betting that rockband and guitar hero will both be online for wii players, the platform is just set for these types of games etc, personally i get more fun from playing a real guitar, something most would enjoy, it gets the girls, lol..great blog by the way,
