If this story turns out to be fake I think I might just quit playing video games all together. Looks like it's totally confirmed now. Sweetness! And here's the link to the official site!

This morning Harmonix and EA released details of their upcoming game, which they're calling Rock Band. In short it takes the Guitar Hero idea and moves it from kick-ass to balls-ass-awesome.

Why? The game will include 2 guitars (lead and bass) a drum kit and a microphone. It will also include all original songs and no covers.

No song list announced yet, but it's going to be htting this holiday season for the 360 and the PS3. And unlike tomorrow's Guitar Hero II for the Xbox 360, Rock Band will be fully playable online.

Alex Rigopulos (Harmonix CEO), had this to say:

Rock Band "takes the core premise of Guitar Hero and expands it tenfold. It lets you create a complete collaborative band."

Like our own Jim Squires once famously said, "It's like Jesus' birthday and Christmas rolled into one!"

It could be just me, but I don't understand all the hype behind Guitar Hero (or any music game for that matter). I have played Guitar Hero in the store and thought it was just OK and would get old really fast. But, the one thing I totally don't understand is if you want to play guitar, why not go get a real guitar? Just my 2 cents I guess.
