How Elite Are You?

Xbox 360 EliteThe Xbox 360 Elite apparently launched in North America yesterday. I mean, we obviously knew it was coming, but has anyone seen a commercial for it yet? I guess I expected a bit more of a public push for the third Xbox 360 SKU.

So, what does your $479.99 investment get you? Aside from the usual Xbox 360 bells and whistles, you get HDMI support, a 120GB hard drive, and a shiny black finish that spreads all the way to the included wireless controller and (wired) headset.

Where are we at on this? The last time we posed this question, the response wasn't terribly positive -- a couple of our readers seemed a bit put off by the idea of having their $400 Premium units outclassed so quickly. Click on the comment link below and let us know how you feel about the black behemoth.

Personally, I feel zero urge to "upgrade" at this point. My launch unit is still humming along nicely, and the lone HDMI input on my HD is currently occupied by the PlayStation 3. But if I was a first-time buyer, I know I'd have a tough time buying a Premium unit with this black beauty staring me down.

Eh....I see no need for all of that stuff.

When I finally get a 360, I'll be getting a Core unit.

I suppose if I had an extra $500... well, I'd spend it on something else. How much of a difference does HDMI make over VGA for 1080p? Also, assuming one doesn't store anything other than XBL Marketplace stuff on the hard drive, is 120GB really necessary?

i do have to say dexie, the core unit is just not a great buy. while you may "save" $100 off the bat, it more than quickly catches up to you. the 20g hdd alone is $100. so now you're even. with the premium, you get a wireless controller, headset and useless remote.

gresh is right - the Core unit is just Microsoft's way of getting people to pay more for what they're going to need while providing the illusion of saving money at the time of purchase.

See, though, I don't need a headset or a remote, I don't care if my controller is wireless or not (Honestly, I'd prefer wired anyway), and won't be needed a 20g hdd. There are only a small amount of 360 games I really want, so I'm fine with just grabbing a memory card for it.
