How I Got Here

ultrasoundWow. Look at this. The BBPS in the flesh. Oh man, oh man, I'm actually posting on their Wordpress? Okay, keep cool; deep breaths. How did I get here? Ha. Easy. The NES and 3 games that define my childhood. Wrecking Crew, Excitebike, and Kung Fu.

I've been playing games as long as I can remember. There are pictures of me rocking an Atari joystick as a baby. I don't remember that. I do remember my NES. Blowing in the carts, Game Genie code books, and a ton of games. Wrecking Crew was a blast. Another random early cameo by Mario, Wrecking Crew had you tearing down construction sites before weird monsters or fireballs got to you. Excellent soundtrack, fun bonus levels featuring Spike, a precursor to Wario, and the option to start on any level you wanted.

Excitebike as a kid was about one thing, going as fast as you can without overheating. Killer soundtrack; I still sing the winning theme song all the time. Believe it or not, it also had a track editor. That's right, custom user made content...in an NES game! Huge!

And Kung Fu. Oh, Kung Fu. When I first got an NES emulator when in high school, the first thing I played was Kung Fu, and I swear it brought a tear to me just hearing his feet shuffle along the boards in the opening scene. That sound effect of landing a punch, and the thrill of killing the knife thrower make up the majority of my young life. I still hate those tiny dragons though....

So here I am, writing for a video games site, mostly in part thanks to my parents allowing me to sit in my room my entire youth and press buttons. It's good to be here, and I look forward to keep on with the keeping on. Godspeed.
