The full Nintendo back piece tattoo
Written by Dan Zuccarelli

The Gamer Ink keeps on flowing! This time with a crazy full back piece covered with Nintendo characters. Seems like this picture was taken while the color was being added, but it already looks fantastic.

I especially love the look of the Princess, there's something real cool about her styling.

I have to agree with the first poster. This is one of the worst ideas anyone's ever had. That's like getting a Spawn tattoo, or better yet.. Could I pay you to get my corporate logo tattooed on your forehead?

what makes a cool tattoo then? a koi fish? tribal bands? chinese characters?

aren't tattoos supposed to reflect something important to you and/or express something?

Tattoo's are a personal thing, and if he's happy with it that's all that should matter. It doesn't impact the people around him, so why make fun?

And as far as the corporate logo argument, would you say the same to a biker that has a Harley tattoo?

The characters of Nintendo at this point have transcended being corporate logos and are more representative of a time in a person's life (i.e. your childhood).

I appreciate all the comments we get here but I will never understand people's desire to poke fun and preach about what other people should and shouldn't do, ESPECIALLY with regard to their own bodies.

If you're here to leave an intelligent comment, or engage in a decent debate... Welcome. To those here to make fun and talk down to people... this isn't the website for you.

I agree with Dan fully, I for one think its awesome and would love to see more of it as it is coloured in. I still to this day have fond memories of playing my Nintendo and Super Nintendo as a kid, and for someone to do such a large piece which also looks very nice and well designed is a joy

That's f***ing sad. By the way, I have a tattoo of Ross and Rachel breaking up because I was going thru some rough s**t at that point, and "Friends" is how I want to immortalize that period of my life.

Alright.. Subject matter aside, it's really just an awful tattoo. For one thing, the 'artist' totally botched Mario's nose. Either he had Mario confused with Mr. Potato Head, or he was going for that hard to capture frostbitten look.

While I'm not a big fan of gaming 'tats' this one is pretty damn epic in the amount of skin covered. The amount of time/work on that guys back must have cost him a boatload of money and hours of sitting in chair gritting his teeth. I don't think the art style is bad, but the shading is a little excessive in places and maybe could of used a little more planning.

For all the people saying his tattoo is lame or pathetic... well at least he wasn't one of the mindless automatons that got those barbed wire around the bicep tattoo's that were "so cool" for 15 minutes in the 1990's. Tattoo's should be something deeply personal to the individual getting the tattoo otherwise just let the tattoo artist write in big block letters on your chest "I've got a tattoo, I'm cool too!".

I'm a artist and i can point out many flaws in that back tattoo, its not even funny. I'm sure you don't have to be a artist to notice it too. anyway, Wario looks down right stupid in that picture. Mario's hat, nose and even hands look odd and out of place. whats going on with princess peach's fingers/hands? anyway, Mario, Wario and peach needs a bit worked on, besides that its a good tat.

He does have the balls to actually get a nice and detailed back piece.

@Killjoy, I agree completely.

It's sad that people still get kanji characters, fish, and naked girls still.

Originality left the art of tattoos long ago.

you may be an artist, but you are not a tattoo artist. doing tattoos is not the same as drawing on paper. you can't just print any picture, get a tattoo of it, and expect it to look the same as it does on screen. this is pretty well done in terms of the line work and shading. there are too many jerks posting here. I like it even though it's mario and think the the guy who got it should be happy with it, nerdy as it is.

This title is misleading I only see Super Mario characters. The shading also mucks things up and takes away from the classic look. I hope someone else finished it. Remember the bigger the tattoo the harder it is to cover up.

If the artist, or guy with the tattoos, are reading these comments: just ignore these twats. The art looks good and there's nothing wrong with getting a tattoot of a video game character. This is much better than those cliche, typical bullshit tats that people get all the time (tribal and kanji, etc).

Bunch of conceited little tossers posting comments on here, huh?

MAN! this is supreme!!! eventhough i´m more into single color tattoos, i have to admit, that this is the shit (positive)! the conceptional idea is amazing and to convert it to skin!
this is kind of newschool and i´m glad that all the tattoo-art has kind of a new son;-)
by the way: too many serious nerds in here!

I think the tat looks pretty sweet, I'm a huge Nintendo fan myself, but don't think I'd get a tattoo like that.

The flying Goombas and Boos look pretty sweet!!

Would like to see a pic of the tat when it's finished.

i always thought hands were hard to draw, but you would think someone would be able to get them down if they were going to be putting some permanent ink in someone's back. seriously, i don't mind the idea of this tattoo, but mario's hands look whack. not to mention a few other mishaps. this whole thing just doesn't seem very planned out... which i would have thought was a necessity when it comes to tattoo art.

but, props to the guy for not giving a damn and sporting a pretty awesome idea on his back.

I can't imagine why you people think that video game tattoos are lame. My generation was raised on video games just as other generations were raised on whatever it was that they felt was important enough to them in their upbringing to have permanently inked on their body. Video games are essentially interactive stories -- some people, especially those who have been raised on them, enjoy the interaction of video game stories instead of books or movies.

Would you prefer he get some Japanese symbols or barbed wire? Those would certainly be much less LAME and cliche, no?

To all you mfers who want to give this guy a hard time; f**k you. Regardless of what you think of the artwork behind this particular tattoo, anything that has had a big enough impact on your life to make the decision to put it in ink on your body is worth a whole lot more than some lame ass design you picked out of a stupid catalog.

In my personal opinion, the look, size, or location of a tattoo are not as important as why you get it. I myself do not have any tattoos, but I plan on getting one. I am getting one on my wrist of the triforce from the Legend of Zelda games. Not only is the tattoo from one of my favorite games ever, but it also represents the trinity and my beliefs as a Christian. I mean hey, bash it all you want I'll probably never look at this page again and I'm not one to push my beliefs, so whatever. Also, the Zelda games are some of my favorites because I grew up with them and my friends and I played them until our fingers turned blue. I mean hey that may sound stupid, but it's a part of who I am. Personally, I don't think gaming tattoos are very cliche either because it takes a lot of balls to get one. I mean, I think its obvious that people are overly judgemental because they think this guys tattoo is crap for three reasons A)Mario B)how big it is and C)its not what you see everyday. Hey, you never know, maybe this guys works for Nintendo and Mario means a lot to him. There could be a million reasons. Regardless, my point is, this guy clearly likes Mario and he put it on his back. It doesn't look exactly like him, but if this guy is happy, then hey, I am, cause tattoos are something you have forever and this guy probably has some stories behind his, so dont bash on it. Besides, you gotta admit, it does look kinda cool.

I agree with "Xaq."
Just because its not your regular every day tattoo and this guy has what some people call an "immagination ", it makes him a morron to get this tattoo?
I personally don't have any tattoos but i'm planning to get a few in the next year or so.
But This tattoo is really nice. correct me if i'm wrong i believe there is such thing as the artists own "style"...?
i have 3 older brothers and 2 have tattoos . one of them has a phoenix sleve that got in japan while he was stationed there (Marines,Semper fi). It took him 12 sessions i believe. if i can i will post a Picture Link.
i'm sure there is plenty of spelling and grammar ect. wrong with my post.

well if i ever remember to come back to this site see you then . if not , See you In hell

i think it's a great tattoo, although i would've gotten it with less shading to get more of a classic look, but it's still awsome lookin. and the fact that not all the characters are proportional to what they actually look like adds to the originality of the design. fuck what all the wannabe critics say as long as you yourself are satisfied with it!
