First let me say thank you to everyone that stopped by to read the previous posts.
Wow. The first installment of the Japanese commercials (Part 3 of the 'When Commercials Attack' series) has been a runaway success. A serious breakout article. Of course I liked all of them. Here's the links to previous installments:
Now I'm back with a vengence baby! Japan has not let me down, and we're ready to assault the senses and boggle the mind with more spots from the far east.
Let's get started.
If the Talking Heads did a commercial for the Sega Genesis, this is what it would look like, no doubt.
Was there a little but of a rap going on in there?
Samba De Amigo was proof that Sega didn't mind thinking about risks with the Dreamcast. This commercial proves they took those risks.
I love the slo-mo shot of the guy jumping out of the closet
It seems that Nintendo is really turning up the strange with their new DS ads, I had no shortage of great spots to choose from. I chose this one for the sheer fact that everyone chanting in Japanese isn't Japanese!
What the hell was with the guys voice at the end?
Commonly regarded as one of the best N64 games, and in the running for best multiplayer game ever, 007 Goldeneye had it's share of fame here in the states. Luckily, the game didn't have this spot to drag it down. Seriously, why are there 2 of them??? They also find an interesting final shot to advertise the rumble pack.
I never knew Bond could be made so uncool.
Hey speaking of uncool....
I actually like this game, but god damn that commercials annoys...
Segata Sanshiro returns! This Sega Saturn "mascot" was apparently based on a Kurosawa character.
Sega gets another song stuck in my head! And I still can't stop singing the Chu Chu Rocket song.
Now for the retro spot. This one can't compare to the dancing Link from the last installemnt, but it's still too bizarre.
The commercial looks like alot more fun than I remember the game being.
Last time, I ended with the comedy, this time I'm going for uncomfortable silence mixed with a severe case of the heebe-jeebes...
How'd I do?
Bonus Spot!
Just cause I think she's cute. sue me.
That's it for part 4 folks... but tell you what... you keep watching 'em and I'll keep finding 'em... Have any ideas for stories? Use the link on the sidebar to send us your tips! or

[...] These are two things that clearly belong together - Japanese videography and Samba De Amigo. The result is a hilarious commercial where a Japanese man in a sombrero comes flying out of a closet in slow motion in what began as a sensual moment between a couple before they broke out the maracas. I don’t know why he’s apologizing at the end, but this is classic stuff. BBPS has posted a fantastic list of japanese videos worthy of glutenous consumption. [...]

Comment #6, I think the two guys are introducing themselves to each other, not apologizing.

I would love for you to be able to find a commercial for an old PSone game called GuyBrave...... simply a classic

Comment #6, actually the person dressed as a Samba guy is introducing himself as the father of the girl. Sort of cruel parody of intruding between the girl and guys fun time and turning it into a formal introduction area.

Comment #11, she was first saying "biyo-n, biyo-n" which is just sound play of how it sounds when Mario is jumping. Next she says "makeru monka...a-a taberarechatta" which is "I wont lose...aww I got eaten". Then it's "fire, fire, fire" to show Mario shooting the fire. Then "ase dekitayo, nannka hontouni" which is "I'm sweating (hands), really". Then "kuyashii, mo" which can be slang as "Aww darn!". Then "ahh, taberarechatta...te kore utsubo?" which is "Aww, I got eaten...is this a Moray Eel?". Finally in the end she says "Utsubo no kodomo ni yara(rechatta)

Sorry got cut off. Continuing comment #11, "Utsubo no kodomo ni yara(rechatta, this part was cut from the video)" is "I got beat from a Moral Eel child". Hope this helps...and oh yeah, she is cute.

Thanks so much! That's awesome... If there was one this I wish I could learn it's Japanese. I bought one of them CD programs for the car but I'll never learn this kind of stuff.
I appreciate it!

Weirdly, they've reshot they've reshot the bonus Mario spot with the girl for the European market. Sadly though, it stars a guy in a suit and tie!

The one with the non-Japanese guys chanting in Japanese, I can explain what was with the guy's voice at the end. He was chanting while he was getting a massage, and because of the vibrations on his body (mainly, his neck), his voice sounded weird.
