Segata02.gifPeople that know me know how much I love Japan. I've haven't been there yet but it's at the top of my list. Hell my entire bedroom is done in a Japanese style. It was the falling in love with games so young that did it. Now I'm a fan of everything Japanese. So it's with love that I poke fun at the following set of crazy commercials. The second and last are my favorites of this set.

Here's some links to my previous advertising articles:

Part 1: Genesis does what Nintendon't - Ads from the late 80's
Part 2: Sony sells Playstation lifestyle - Strange Sony ads
Part 3: Ads in the Land of the Rising Sun - Bizarre Japanese Ads
Part 4: Japan Strikes Back! - Bizarre Japanese Ads 2nd Edition

Enough of all that, we got some good stuff coming up so let's get on with it!

Some of you may think you're watching a spot for Super Mario Bros. 2, and you'd be half right. But you're missing the point, it's a guy dressed as a shiek yelling Japanese in the street.

Those of you that know me know that I LOVE Segata Sanshiro. And this is why. Sing it with me! SEGATA SHANSHIRO, SEGATA SHANSHIRO!

The man has thrown soccer players, hit baseballs with his feet, and made a human being explode. But even with all that, watching this commercial enforces my belief that there's nothing Segata Sanshiro won't do for humanity.

Very few of us here in the states have ever heard of Ultraman, but apparently, there's a whole family of them running around!

Remember the weird Legend of Zelda dance number spot from the first edition of Japanese commercials? Here's a similar one but advertises a bunch of different games. Watch for the Dr. Mario dress-up guy!

The door has really shut on the whole "dressing someone up in a crazy outfit to make a sale" thing. Too bad, I can't think of any other reason to buy Tetris Flash.

I had a commercial featuring these two in the first group of Japanese ads above, but this time they do it in dress-up! It's even better, and I love the Disc System animation and jingle at the end.

And here we are, the final spot for this post.

I'm going to say one word, and one word only before you watch the following commercial. The word is "Magical !" Now, watch this spot.

Watch it again, and you won't be able to get that word out of your head

That's it for now, I'm working on a few new commercial ideas I think you're all gonna love. Thanks for looking, and I hope you come back to the site again soon. "Magical!"

Erm, I believe that the dancing nintendo commercial is actually Korean...

Hmmm... I believe you're right.... it was tagged as Japanese and I never really checked too closely...

It is Korean. Japanese looks more cursive, Chinese looks highly complex, and Korean is just funky.

Yea that's what I looked at after it was brought up... Oh well, incorrect tags and my own ignorace add up to it being there... no biggie... next time I'll be more careful...

certainly doesn't make it any less humorous to watch though

This Pavel Datsyuk Jerseys was a basis for the uniforms worn by Pavel Datsyuk, nicknamed the "99ers", for their exhibition tour in Europe during the 1994–95 NHL lockout.Alternate Detroit Red Wings jerseys for the RBK Edge system are expected for 2008–2009, but Detroit has thus far opted not to use alternates. The Red Wings wore alternative Pavel Datsyuk Jerseys for the 2009 NHL Winter Classic in Chicago. The one-time jerseys were based on the uniforms worn by the then-Detroit Cougars during their inaugural season of 1926–27. These Pavel Datsyuk Jerseys were white, with a single bold red stripe on the sleeves and chest, and a uniquely-styled white Old English "D" centered on the chest stripe. The Pavel Datsyuk Jerseys were also worn for their final 2009 regular season home game, again against the Chicago Blackhawks.
