LightBikes come to App Store.

The App Store for Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch now has 2 versions of a light bike game that you relive that time you accidentally got warped into a computer and had to defeat the Master Control Program to escape.  Wait, that wasn't you?  That was just a movie?  Either way, the game is a blast and let's you think that you're Flynn, or Tron, or Ram zipping along inside the motherboard and playing on the game grid.

If you know Tron, you know this game.  You're a light bike, leaving an energy wall behind you as you race along a grid.  The object is to out maneuver and cut off the opposing bikes, while not falling off the edge, or crashing into energy walls.  Simple but addictive and strategy filled.  The phone/iPod is held horizontally, and controls are a simple touch to the left or right, to turn your bike.  There's an added bonus though that I haven't seen on any other light bike games.  Boost.

A quick press of the Boost icon on the bottom of the screen sends your bike zooming past the others.  It's great if you need to play catch up and quickly cut someone off, leaving them to eat wall.  It's difficult when you don't realize how fast you're going, because sharp turns are a bit more difficult with all the speed behind you.  The controls are pretty sensitive.  The only time they work against me is when I underestimate them.  For example, I'll need to do a u-turn and tap twice.  The game knows this and will do it, but for some reason I keep thinking my doubletap was too fast, so I'll do it again and crash.  I'm getting used to trusting the controls though.  There's some great techno/electro background music going on the whole time, as well as sound effects.  For a small iPhone game, it really doesn't hold anything back.

The free version of the game is only a single player version.  It's you versus 3 computers, first to 3 wins.  The difficulty of the computer players varies and changes, so it's not always a walk in the park, yet not always a beat down.  The full version, which as of now is only $0.99, features 2 player split screen, and up to 4 player over LAN wifi.  It's simple and fun, and provides a great way to kill some time on the train or on a quick break at work, and will def. hold me over until TR2N comes out.  Know I just to find some friends who are into it too, so we can rock some multiplayer together.

End of line.
