Some games lend themselves to the touch and tilt controls of the iPhone and iPod Touch. Monkey Ball, Katamari, pretty much anything with balls will do, as will tower defense games. But would you expect space opera, Mass Effect to make the quantum leap to the iPhone?

Now, I'd normally be quite alarmed by such whoring out of a good franchise (Hi, EA), but I'm actually impressed by what I see. The game is a prequel to 2007's Mass Effect, which sparked both critical acclaim and controversy. The iPhone iteration takes on a bird's eye view camera angle, a la the early Grand Theft Auto games. Judging by the screens, it looks like players can freeze time and order attacks and Tech abilities like in the original game.
Not only does this looks to be a solid iPhone title, but it's only going to cost $2.99, and according to Destructoid, more games could follow if Mass Effect sells well. I'm also looking forward to the story of the game; I loved Mass Effect's narrative and the novels aren't bad either. Let's just hope the developers change the mass (ahem) produced Saturday morning cartoon visuals.
