I really can't convey in words how much this announcement excites me. Maybe I should use interpretive dance. Whatever the case, Mega Man 9 is officially confirmed (+1 awesome), coming to WiiWare (+2 awesome) and utilizing a retro style similar to the original NES series (+ so much awesome a brick just fell out of my rear-endicus). Screens are from Nintendo Power. Don't look too close of the awesome may turn you into a pillar of salt.

The game will be developed by Inti Creates, a development studio made of of key people involved in the development of the first three Mega Man games for the NES. I think a second brick just fell out. Confirmed bosses? Magma Man, Galaxy Man, Jewel Man, Concrete Man, Hornet Man, Plug Man, Tornado Man, and -- wait for it -- Splash Woman. Finally, a Mega Man game that lets me act out all of our filthiest fan fic/cosplay fantasties. No? That's just me?

I'm still having a bit of trouble believing this one... I'm following the news very closely, though. If this was to be true, it would be very interesting: how many big-name companies create new videogames as if they were done 15 years ago?

Agreed that it's a rather unforeseen and unprecedented move. However, it does have some logic to it. After all, these guys did put in a few "classic" levels into ZX Advent. It's also not unknown for large companies to experiment. Also, making an 8-bit game takes a lot less time and manpower. I'll bet with a team of less than 10, a classic-style Mega Man game could be made in less than 6 months. That's not a lot of overhead for a studio to experiment with something. Then also, releasing the game through the increasingly popular digital distribution method further allows Capcom to take a chance on this.

Anyway, it's supposedly in the most recent Nintendo Power. So, if you can't believe it, go pick up a copy. I think I will.

Although I'm a tad skeptical, this is awesome news. I would absolutely love it if some development studio kept making games in the same fashion as Mega Man 2 & 3.
