Nintendo Monopoly hits stores

I dont think I've ever looked forward to the release of a board game. In fact, I think the last time I played a board game was a few years ago me and the friends decided to make Trivial Pursuit a drinking game. Every time you got a question wrong, someone on the team did a shot. Needless to say, it didn't end well.

But this game, should be fun for totally different reasons. Monopoly has just about every license out there, from Batman to the NFL. Whatever you're into, there's probably a Monopoly game for you. Now, us video game fans can get in on the fun.

Nintendo Monopoly was announced quite a bit ago, but now it's actually shipping! Amazon has it for 29.99. I can't even say if that's a normal price, since I haven't owned Monopoly for very many years.

I think it's the playing pieces that seem the coolest. Donkey Kongâ€™s Barrel, Linkâ€™s Iron Boots, Hylian Shield, NES Controller, Marioâ€™s Cap, and Koopa Shell. The properties on the other hand, are all famous Nintendo characters. Is it just me or wouldn't it have been cooler if the properties were Nintendo worlds? Like the Mushroom Kingdom or Hyrule?

Oh well. I ordered one and will put up lots of pictures and a review once I get it.

Re: the price: It's probably close to normal for a novelty Monopoly (non-standard.) I was reading the other day about that new Monopoly that uses toy debit cards instead of cash, and saw that regular (cash) Monopoly was $19.99 and the debit card version was $29.99. Most of the themed Monopoly games look like they go for $20-$35, with a couple notable exceptions - LOTR Monopoly is $80(!) and 70th anniversary Monopoly is $40. My sources: Amazon and USAopoly.

The Nintendo Monoploy is from USAopoly as well

I read about the debit card one, something seems wrong with taking the money out of monopoly. I think it helps kids learn how to count and value money more by actually holding it

If you are not excited by board games, it's probably because you are playing such dull games as Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit. Monopoly is an ok game, but I like to say that there is 20 minutes of fun in the 3 hours it takes to play it. There are such better options out there nowadays.

There are lots of people that grew up on video games that are now getting into the realm of modern board games. Might I suggest giving Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, or Power Grid a try?

One of the reasons I don't really play board games anymore is lack of people to play.

It's why I play UNO on XBLA.

Though I have played some catchphrase at a party, now that was a good time.
