Guitar Hero: Aerosmith not made up entirely of Aerosmith songs?

[It's been brought to my attention that this announcement was included in the original press release. However, if you call your game Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, it oughta be made up of Aerosmith songs. Otherwise, you oughta call is Aerosmith and Friends.]

ghaero.jpgIf the description in this week's Best Buy sale circular is correct... and the writing there is pretty damn extensive. You'll be hitting the same venues Aerosmith grew up on, playing as the band members, playing their songs... and songs from other bands that Aerosmith has played with or been inspired by??? After touring for decades is there a ton of bands that Aerosmith hasn't played with? Seems like you're going to be getting a lot of non-Aerosmith songs in your Guitar Hero: Aerosmith game.

Probably a nice way to cram some cheaper songs onto the disc.

Here's the text from the page on Best Buy.com (emphasis ours)

Just like rock 'n' roll, Aerosmith lives on. But the band didn't always enjoy the fame and fortune it does today. See what it was like for these once-unknown musicians to skyrocket to stardom in Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. This adventure for the amazing Guitar Hero series puts you in the shoes of Aerosmith members Joe Perry, Brad Whitford and Tom Hamilton as you rock out alongside lead singer Steven Tyler and drummer Joey Kramer. Experience all the steps of their rise to fame, from their first gig to their days as rock royalty.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith challenges you to progress to the top by performing in the same venues as the band did throughout its illustrious career. Along the way, you can jam to many of Aerosmith's greatest hits, as well as songs by other popular artists that the band has performed with or been inspired by in some way. No matter which tune you try, you'll have hours of fun emulating these famous rock legends. Can you measure up to a band that's sold more than 150 million albums worldwide?

I'm not a Guitar Hero fan (anymore) or an Aerosmith fan, so personally I don't have a stake in this... but I'm guessing if you're a big Aerosmith person, having a game called Guitar Hero: Aerosmith with songs from other bands might rub you the wrong way. No?

No actually I think as an Aerosmith fan it's pretty rad because if you're supposed to be "following their career" then doesn't it make sense to play some tunes they would have jammed on while practicing and stuff? It would be pretty cool if they had some old blues songs in there.

Does sound oddly odd, really...

This information was available upon the initial announcment... but meh. Whatever.

Anyway, while this game rubs me the wrong way just on the whorish principle of it, it also generally irritates me when you see something with a band's name on it, and it turns out that it's just a freakin' tribute album or something. Yeah, having other bands than Aerosmith is just balls and only - for me at least - outlines the above stated whorishness of the game.

F you, Activision. F you to hell.
