Sony pisses on our head and tells us it's raining with new "Greatest Hits" for PSP

pspchick.gifA year and a half after the PSP launched Sony is getting set to release some of their titles labeled as "Greatest Hits" and priced at the attractive point of 19.99. So what games are on the list you ask?

In what must be a joke, Sony has put Wipeout Pure, Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee, Ape Escape: On the Loose, Offroad Fury: Blazin' Trails, Twisted Metal: Head On up for "Greatest Hits" status. Wipeout Pure and Hot Shots I agree with I suppose. But the rest?

Seriously? These are the best games for the system Sony? No wonder the PSP is lagging...

Oh wait... I could've sworn there were a few good games for the system... How about...

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories?

Lumines?

SOCOM?

Ridge Racer?

Daxter?

Virtua Tennis?

No, No, No, No, No, and No

Good choices Sony... Way to but the PSP's best foot forward. I know that most companies base their "Greatest Hits" on sales numbers alone, but when you're trying to jumpstart interest in your struggling platform, is this really the way to go?

I'd wager it's strictly about the $$$ -- "Greatest Hits" titles go for that $19.99 before discounts (if any)... Sony still wants to make more money on the titles you listed so they still list them at full price. Sales of the titles that went "greatest" were probably slipping and are among the oldest for the PSP, so they figure they can sell more and clean up on sheer volume.

True Lumines and Ridge were launch titles (in the US anyway), but I'd expect that their continuing popularity sans bargain bin pricing will keep them off the "Greatest Hits" label for at least a little while longer.

The "Greatest Hits" label is determined upon two things, sales and age. Im pretty sure that they have to sell more than 250,000 copies and be out for longer than nine months.

Also, generally speaking, each generation of GH games contain only four games, so while Lumines and Ridge Racer were out, and probably got the sales, they just werent part of their selection this time around.

I realize all the reasons why, it's just a cop-out to say some of those games are greatest hits while ignoring some of the games that do deserve the status... since they'll still sell at full price
