Review: Nyko ChargeStation for the Nintendo Wii

The fact that Nintendo doesn't seem to want to offer a rechargable battery pack for it's Wiimotes is a bit of a bummer. Even though the 360 controllers don't come with battery packs it's an easy upgrade. Since Nintendo doesn't seem to want to step to the plate, I'm glad someone else is.

1st announced at CES, Nyko has just released their batterypack/recharge station accessory the ChargeStation. It includes 2 rechargable battery packs, a dock to charge 2 remotes and once, and new rubberized battery pack covers for the Wiimote. But is it worth it?

In a word, yes. for $30 bucks you get a good amount of stuff, and it's all a really nice quality. The dock chargers 2 Wiimotes at a time, has a non-slide bottom, good weight so it doesn't feel cheap, and lights to indicate charge status. The battery pack is unremarkable but works. The rubberized grips are a vast improvement over the ones that ship from Nintendo. I'm not sure if they'll help the idiots hold onto them any better, but they feel much nicer to hold. It should be noted I think the battery pack and cover weigh more than the standard Nintendo stuff, not so much that it feels heavy in your hands, it actually gives the remote a better heft and feel.

It's an excellent package and for those of us sick of changing batteries a required purchase. The stand is nice enough that you won't mind leaving the controllers out in plain sight, so you'll always be ready to grab and go.

It does everything it says it'll do.

I'vebeen tryingto find outsomething about this product. Where does the base station plug in? is it an AC plug, or does it plug into a usb port on the Wii?
