Oh Sony, What's Next?

From using PGR 3 images to promote the upcoming Gran Turismo on their own website, to gutting a helpless goat and now using toilet bowls to promote how awesome they are; Sony has redefined the latest market trend.

Multi-billion dollar organizations that use a marketing team so bad you'd think it came free with a fill-up at Mobil.

Kotaku snapped a few telling photos of Sony's booth at the Leipzig Gaming Convention that show off Sony's latest marketing ploy. Set up at the rear, too easy, of the Sony booth are toilets where gamers are welcome to take a load out off and play some upcoming releases. I don't get it either, but I can't wait to hear the PR idea behind that.

Toilets as a promotional item for a $600 video game entertainment unit?

Did I miss a press release where Home Depot and Sony agreed to some kind of a strategic partnership?

Well, with the latest news that major motion picture companies have jumped ship to back HD-DVD instead of Blu-Ray I guess it's a great place for Sony execs to go and shit themselves.

Sony, you used to be the Ninja of Gaming. Now, you've been downgraded to Pirate status... and as we all know, Ninja's are way better than pirates.

You gotta admit, their idea is original.

Ninjas? Superior to Pirates? I should make ye walk the plank for that!

But as far as the story goes, this one is yet another misstep for Sony PR. I mean seriously... setting up a row of toilets doesn't exactly inspire spending 500 bucks on a piece of HD hardware. Though I love Kotaku's headling "It's the shit".

This would be a brilliant campaign for the PSP. A whole "GAME ANYWHERE" kind of vibe to underscore the portiblity of the handheld system. I remember a magazine ad for the Wavebird that used similar imagery and was quite effective.

But for the $600 PS3?!?!? Not so much. What's the slogan? "Playstation 3: You just flushed $600 down the toilet!!!"

rdaneel: Originally I thought that was the idea, sit down and play PSP... which is actually a smart idea in theory. But, I believe they have the stations to promote the PS3... how many of us have an HDTV in our bathrooms?

Gives a whole new meaning to 1080p. Ba-Zing!
