[Update! more wallpapers were discovered on Clover Studio's website. Thanks to m1cah for letting us know! You can find them at the bottom.]

So over the weekend I went on a bit of an Okami bender. Now I'm waist deep in Okami-ness since my shipment from Play-Asia.com arrived this morning containing the 5 cd box set soundtrack. I've decided to make it a trifecta and find some sweet high-rez Okami wallpaper for the ol' work computer.

But get this... the English version of the site has the wallpaper in the not high-enough-rez 1280x1024 (I know, it's better than 800X600... but still). After poking through the Japanese version of the site (which unfortunately is ENTIRELY in Japanese) I found the wallpapers... and they're offered in better resolutions! Putting aside the craziness of not just putting these on their English pages, I've decided to just pull them down and offer them up here. It's easier for you guys because their entire site is in flash and there's no easy link.

Just click 'em to embiggem 'em:

[...] I present to you some gorgeous Okami wallpapers. I’ve not yet had the pleasure — and if the review sites are to be believed, it truly is — to play the game yet. If the wallpapers are any indication of the beauty of the game, I’ll have to pick it up… when it’s $19.99. All the wallpapers linked there are 1600×1200 and absolutely purdy in that Japanesesque-water-colory way. [...]

[...] We’ve posted a pretty good collection of wallpapers in our time for your desktops (Here & Here come to mind). But Datamax has a flickr gallery that just kills it. Pages upon pages upon pages of high rez wallpaper. Most of it is videogame stuff but there’s some other geek topics (Star Trek) and movie themed ones as well. [...]

This is a testimonial. I was a bike messenger for a while, but I got pegged by a rather large U-Haul truck. I broke my ankle, bruised my ribs, and resurfaced the pavement with my own face. I was out of a job and on the couch for two months with the stupid cast on. I needed a game and I only had enough money for one. It was a long-shot at the store. I hadn't really heard of it, only that it was "supposed" to be good. It was between that or some shooter. I thought about ICO, and Katamari Damacy, games that really didn't have any predecessors, ORIGINAL games, and how awesome they proved to be. I bought Okami and it's been love ever since. From the sweeping score to the epic lore... a big Thank You to Clover Studios from this little gamer.

I beat this game not long after its North American release, and I'm still awe-struck by how wonderfully imaginative and artistic this deeply hidden gem truly is. It sold so poorly, so we can't expect a sequel, but then again I'm one to believe it's one of a kind. I thoroughly enjoyed many play-throughs, and I've completely mastered every aspect of it - from the main plot all the way down to something as minute as finding and feeding every single animal in the game.

I fear I will never find another game quite as epic as Okami. Nontheless, thank-you for the wonderful wallpapers, I should have stumbled upon these long ago.

These wallpapers are fantastic. Thanks go to the poster!

I'm a 20 year old sometimes-gamer who happened to borrow Okami and a Wii system from her boyfriend. I've played RPGs before - my favorite being the KOTOR pair and FF7 - but this game is like nothing I've ever seen. The musical score is gorgeous, the characters are fun to watch, and the overall gameplay is simply beautiful. There are rarely games that have a more feminine draw, but this one would certainly be on that list, both for Amaterasu being a girl and for the beautiful art (not to say that men aren't interested in art; it's just been my experience that the battle scenarios are what my male friends comment on the most).

After playing it on the Wii, I wanted to try the Playstation version, but I was somewhat dissapointed by the gameplay. Maybe it was just that I had gotten used to the Wii remote, but I love the physical action of drawing, and the fact that I can use my left hand to do it without changing any settings (I'm left-handed, so sometimes the controllers feel backwards to me). Are there other differences between the two games?

I'm glad I got a chance to experience this game. I played for about a week straight and beat it (I really got into it), and I was so involved in the storyline that the ending brought me close to tears! I wish there were more games like this out there, with worlds that are easy to immerse yourself in and graphics that draw in your memory.

Thanks a ton for these wallpapers! My laptop will be very happy for a while to come now. I've beat the game once, restarted, but then went back to my old saves to track down all of the beads first.

But even on the second playthrough so far, the game is still amazing and rewarding!
