Power Ups!

Welcome to the newest of the new here at The BBPS: Power Ups. The idea is seemingly simple, inspired by the ESPN Power Rankings, Entertainment Weekly's Must List and maybe even a little bit of VH1's Best Week Ever we thought it might be fun to do something similar for game-related items each week. Almost anything can be ranked on this weekly list. Be it a particular news story, a certain game or genre in general, we'll be polling each other and paying attention to what you react to each week and listing the top five items for that particular week. Of course, it's like anything and this concept might evolve a bit over the next few weeks. We'll see how it goes!

So, on with our cherry-popping entry for the week ending today, January 11, 2008!

5. Hummerhog

It's a Warthog. Well, it's really a Hummer. But we know what those three young designers were thinking when they came up with this concept.

4. Game Journalists Fight Back

EGM editor-in-chief Dan Hsu calls out Midway, Sony's sports division and Ubisoft for holding back exclusives and having sand in their vaginas since EGM said that their bad games were...wait for it...BAD. Oh the huge manatee.

3. Bill Gates' Swan Song CES Keynote

From Slash being his ringer to his last day at Microsoft skit, Bill Gates comes off as a human and possibly even slightly likable. It almost made us forget that Xbox Live hasn't been working since Christmas. Oh, and a free Arcade game. Maybe.

2. Fat Gamers

The pot calls the kettle black. McDonald's says video games are causing obesity? Where's Morgan Spurlock when you need him?

1. Xbox Live Arcade

With Rez officially getting a date nailed down with sexy vibrating controllers in tact, Peggle bouncing its way onto to the service just made this the most exciting gaming dealio around these parts. Developers have been searching for a Halo-killer, PopCap may have actually found it.

So there's our list. If anything carries over to next week you'll see it noted where it was ranked this week. Now it's time for you tell us your favorite bit of gaming awesomeness (or sucktitude) down below.
