The previously Japanese exclusive, Raiden Fighter Aces (X360) has shown up on Amazon as having a US release date.  This is good news for shooter fans.  And the good news keeps getting better; the disk will only cost $29.99.  Even more good news - you won't have to wait long, since the game looks like it's going to be released on March 3.  Dayum!

Raiden Fighter Aces is a compilation of three old-school shooters from publisher, Seibu Kaihatsu. Most gamers are probably familiar with the Raiden series, but the Fighter offshoots are a bit of a departure from the originals.  They are more story-based, which is very unique for the genre.  Gameplay is also more complex than the original Raidens - the player can choose one of several ships to pilot, each with its own style of flight and combat. The three games were released once a year, starting in 1996.

raidenfightersI haven't played the game yet, but let's hope that these ports turn out better than previous attempts.  A version of the first game was developed for the arcade-port-friendly Sega Saturn, but was cancelled.  Raiden Fighters 1 and 2 were supposed to be released for the original Xbox, but were also scrapped.

Expect a full review if this compilation is released - Amazon are pretty reliable when it comes it localizations and ship dates, so it looks like a safe bet.

Raiden Figher Aces will be available on March 3, 2009 on the Xbox 360 for $29.99 [Amazon]

We had one near my town, but most of the cabinets there were broken. I'll admit I broke X-Men VS Street Fighter and Metal Slug 3. Totally not my fault though. That arcade died and went to arcade heaven in the summer though. No more good arcades around Boston... So sad...
