It's about time!  Bandai Namco released GameCenter CX in November of 2007 in Japan.  The DS cart was based off of the Japanese game-show GameCenter CX (or Retro Game Master, depending on who you ask), where contestants play Famicom games ...to the death.  OK, not really to the death, but pretty close.

XSeed are finally bringing a localized port of the game to North America on February 10th, now called Retro Game Challenge.

RGC is a game about games - a metagame if you will.  You are sent back the '80s by the so-called "Game Master".. In order to escape the madman you must defeat him in a smorgasbord of 8-bit games.  Remember how tough those games were?  Yeah, well they still are.  You're going to need all the help you can get, so it's a good thing that the Game Master left a stack of gaming mags lying around.  By reading the magazines you can learn cheats, tricks, and strategies to help you through games of Battletoads-level difficulty.

games_ss6cRetro Game Challenge offers six games for you to master.  Cosmic Gate seems to be a mash-up of Asteroids and Space InvadersHaggle Man and the sequel are the equivalents to Ninja Gaiden or ShinobiRally King is a top-down racer.  Star Prince is a vertical shooter, and Guardia Quest is the anaolgue to a Final Fantasy or Dragon Warrior (good thing you have those magazines).  On top of those six games, unlockable features are hidden throughout the cart.

Better late than never I say, especially since the game isn't import-friendly to those who can't read games_ss1cJapanese (you need to read those magazines).  Fans of 8-bit games and the '80s are going to love this cart.  I for one am waiting patiently with my slap-bracelt and Robotech shirt.  In the meantime, check out the game's official website and some YouTube videos of the show it's based off of.

Some people are saying Feb. 3, but Amazon, who tend to be correct, say the 10th. I can't wait.
