PS3 better at playing scratched DVD's

scratch_dvd2.jpgI'll chalk this up to Sony using nicer hardware than the Xbox 360. Of course maybe the Wii does a better job than.... oh yea, nevermind.

The fellas over at Arstechnica ran into a little problem with their Bob the Builder saves Christmas DVD (don't ask) trying to play it in their 360. Trying it out on the PS3 yeilded much better results. They've since gone on to an unscientific study which seems to lend credence to their claims. The PS3 does a much better job playing back scratched media. So there ya go.

I've had a similar experience with my "Sesame Beginnings: Make Music Together DVD" (not kidding.) My 360 will play it, but it has a few "difficulty reading disc" hiccups along the way. I don't have a PS3 mind you, but my PS2 plays it clean as a bean.

i think that was the blu-ray answer to hd dvd's claim that their disks are scratch resistant.
