PS3 Stranglehold Special Edition to include Hard Boiled

If I wasn't saving for a PS3 before this news, I sure as shit am now. John Woo's Stranglehold is one of those games that, even though a big part of me expects it to be awful, I can't help but want to get my hands on. Why? Because Hong Kong John Woo (not Hollywood John Woo) kicks ass.

Stranglehold is the video game sequel to what many consider to be his finest work, Hard Boiled. And now, if you're a PS3 owner whose willing to pony up the extra bucks for the special edition, you'll be getting a copy of Hard-Boiled on the same disc as the game. Score. I'll go on record as saying this is a MUCH better promo than that whole Stealth UMD/Wipeout Pure combo that made little-to-no sense a few years back.

It's not clear if Hard Boiled will be in HD, and to be honest, I'm going to assume it's not. Later this year The Weinstein Company will be re-releasing it on their Dragon Dynasty label with no announced HD release to accompany it. A lot of gaming sites out there are reporting that it will be a 1080p release, but I'm pretty sure I'm working from the same press release they are and there's no mention of it. I guess we can call that "wishful thinking journalism."

Expect an "I told you so" from me when it turns out it's standard def.

Everything I've heard about the movie is that it WILL be the Blu Ray version, no doubt.

So expect an "I told you so" when it's the BR version.

So, I was going to give you the hot inside scoop with a direct quote from Product Manager Jack Van Leer from my digital voice recording from Gamers Day, but... the goddamn game was too loud, and I couldn't make out what he was saying about Hard Boiled.

But I'm pretty sure it's Blu-ray, as well.

It just seems like that would be a pretty big deal and the press release would have mentioned it. All they mention is that it's on the same blu-ray disc as the game -- no mention of 1080p or HD quality.
