It's Read:Response! The column where we answer a question about our favorite this or most hated that, and you the readers chime in and tell us what you think. It's easy. Got a question you'd like us to answer? Let us know! So what's the most epic battle you've ever played in a game? Leave a comment and let us know! Rich C- Maybe I just really suck at the game, but I don't think I've ever fought a boss longer than Ultimecia in Final Fantasy VIII. If I ever decided to run this fight down again, I know I'm looking at a minimum of a forty-five minute battle. The fight consists of five different forms, each with a massive amount of HP and devastating attacks. Because of random character selection, I'm forced to pair up the strengths of characters I normally wouldn't place together. To make matters worse, one form of the boss can actually completely obliterate the party's magic, leaving me utterly defenseless. However, it is in spite of these challenges during the already difficult final battle that make it seem so epic. Sure, if I could bring my A-team into the fight I'd probably shave off fifteen minutes, but my victory wouldn't seem nearly as satisfying.
Liam- Imagine this. You're face-to-face on a circular platform, facing down your towering adversary, your swords clashing, and a princess providing you with backup using a bow, with water torrenting downwards all around you. In the end, you've brought him to his knees, and he takes one last swqipe at you, only for you to leap into the air and plant your blade through his forehead! This climax to The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker was undoubtedly the best finale to any game I've ever played, and is one of the reasons why it's my favorite Zelda game.
Kevin Alexander- We've all been there. You're at that point in a game where you've been fighting and struggling to get near the end and it's getting harder and harder. Now you're there and you're nervous because you don't want to screw it up. The goal is in sight. You're palms are sweaty and you want so badly to pause the game and wipe them off on your pants...but you don't, you're in the zone and you know you can't stop or you'll break your rhythm. This is what it felt like the first time I hit 1000 lines and 1 million points in Tetris DX. My wife wanted to go shoe shopping and to a couple other places so I brought along my GBA and sat in the car. By time she came out I had hit over 700 or 800 lines and there was no sign that I was slowing down. Have you ever hit level 30 in Tetris? That's the max level and it's so quick that the pieces don't actually fall, they just appear at the bottom. You can't control where they go as much as suggest it. I've only accomplished this feat about three times, and I'm proud of it every time. To me, it's as epic as it gets.
Dan Zuccarelli- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. **Spoilers Ahead** Just in case you haven't played it but want to. On my way though the game I played the light side of the force. And even after learning that I used to be Darth Revan, the meanest mother f'ing Sith out there, I still decided the path of the light was best. Finding out that bastard Malak betrayed me and was behind my downfall, just made me want to kill him even more. The revelation of my evil past and subsequent choice of what path to take made me feel like the story was being crafted just for me, and felt as epic as it gets. To Bioware's credit Jade Empire was pretty solid in the running for my choice this week as well. But killing Darth Malak and saving everyone was a satisfying (and epic) moment.
