Maybe starting a videogame site in the summer wasn't such a good idea

The videogame industry is notoriously slow during the summer months. Post E3 there's just nothing to talk about usually until the fall. Kids are busy playing outside, and developers and hardware manufacturers are working on their holiday strategies. It makes for shall we say slow news cycles to say the least. It's why we get excited over new holes on the Wii or the size of a power supply.

Just how slow is the industry news right now? We've taken to reporting non-news. Take for example the circulating rumors about Resident Evil for the Wii. The UK edition of the Official Nintendo Magazine is reporting that they have exclusive information concerning Resident Evil, but they didnt get it in time to go to press.

res-evil-control.gifThat's it. We're left to ponder, ruminate, and guess as to what the game could entail. And Nintendo Magazine just asks to wait till next month for the juicy info.

So since there's no real news on the topic I'm just going to throw a cool idea out there. What if they came out with a Wii-enabled chainsaw controller? Seeing the version that came out for the PS2 and Gamecube last year you can't help but think how cool it would be to swing that thing around, cutting down zombies. It's just speculation, but it's more than the UK Nintendo mag gave us, so there ya go.

On a side note: A few weeks ago we ran a story about how magazines are limited by deadlines and printing time, and it would seem here's a perfect example.

Don't stress out about it smilies/smiley.gif
Personally, I don't like it when blogs post misc stuff just because they feel they need to fill up the page with "new" stuff.

And when there isn't anything new to talk about, why not talk about old stuff smilies/smiley.gif I know you have in the past, but I thought it was worth mentioning. Plus anything retro gaming related is eligible for a link from me on my site smilies/smiley.gif

Keep up the good work!

I'd argue that starting your site in the summer was a pretty good idea.

Sure the news cycle is slower now, but it means you have more time to A) find your voice and B) experiment with ideas above and beyond "here's the latest PS3/Xbox 360/Wiiiiiiiii news" because, honestly, we can get that stuff from any of a hundred different blogs/websites.

For example, your series on video game commercials was what brought me to your site to begin with and your commentary on the death of the arcade got me linking to you. That's great stuff and you should take advantage of the slow period to explore similar ideas. Sure, slap some news up when it comes in, but don't sweat it if it's slow right now. You're off to a good start. Keep up the good work.

I would say summer is a great time to start a site. You don't have the winter holidays to try and figure out when to post stuff. You can also work out any kinks before the fall hits the fan.
