kings_quest_v.gifRoberta Williams and Sierra On-Line were major players in the computer game industry back when you had to install games off diskettes (mid to late 80's). Roberta is the first woman to ever gain any sort of popularity in the video game industry. She's best known for Kings Quest I-VIII (1984-98) and Phantasmagoria. Sierra On-Line published Leisure Suit Larry, Police Quest, Gabriel Knight and many many other titles. Since she left Sierra 8 years ago Roberta has all but vanished from the game industry.

kingsquest1.gifHer games were exciting, interesting, and fun. They played a huge part personally on my early games as a game player, especially Kings Quest. The top screenshot is from Kings Quest V, which to this day holds a special place in my heart. The other screenshot is from Kings Quest I.

As a matter of fact I played a ton of Sierra On-Line games in my time, and anyone looking for some old games really ought to look through their catalog.

The website Adventure Classic Gaming recently was granted an interview, where they discuss the state of today's adventure games, her favorite project, what she's working on now, women in the programming industry, among other topics. Click here to read the interview

It's a good read.

I miss the King's Quest series! I remember when King's Quest 6 first came out, my uncle was complaining about how much hard drive space it took.
